Marlin X7 Varmint or Mossberg 4x4?

I'm going to be buying a 22-250 and was I wondering if anyone has any experience or an opinion on these two? I know there are better ones out there to chose from, but from some of the research I've found for the price these two are pretty decent guns.

It should be Marlon vs Savage, really. And I see that as a very fair fight! JMHO.
 
I would wipe my arse with an Axis/Edge, but I wouldn't want to sully my ARSE!!!
Savage/Stevens, fine.

I vote Marlin.

I was looking at the Axis as well. I had just heard that the Mossberg 4x4 shoots well and has the adjustable trigger and a 24" barrel. The Axis I thought didn't have the accutrigger and has the 22" barrel.
 
I personally didn't care for the ORIGINAL 4X4.
The new MVP is based on that action, but have yet to get my hands on one.

Now a few people have mentioned the Axis which is actually on sale at Cabelas by my house for $249 or a guy can get the camo stock with a scope for $329.

Remington qc.... Seems I have heard a few bad things about that term.

Anyway, I still don't see the appeal of the accutrigger. I don't own one, shot one a few times. The way I see it, if I had an accutrigger I'd adjust it where it needs to be and them never touch it again. Vs a regular trigger that I'd adjust once and never touch it again. It would just take 5 minutes longer to do it.

I've got a savage/Stephens 25-06 and an axis 25-06. The axis feels lighter in the field and has consistently grouped better with every load I've put through them. Both have taken game out past 400, not planning on dumping either of them.

I liked the marlins when they first came out, but spending more just to get all the goodies they licensed from savage... Why not just buy a savage? I'd still get one if the price was right but I have no plans to shop for one.
 
I had a Stevens in 270 that shot 1 to 1.5 in. Groups easily and handles well. I also got an Axis in 308 but it was grouping all over. Don't like it as much as the Stevens. I think the Stevens is a much better gun. I put a Timney trigger on it and it shoots really good. Got my biggest buck first time out with it. The Axis I plan to get rid of
 
I have a Marlin X7HB in 223. If you do some reading on Marlin Owners site you will find that since Remington bought Marlin, quality has fallen.

However, mine shoots great! I'm loading 62gr. Varmageddons with N140 and it is sticking them into a 5/8" hole with a POS scope.

The trigger is decent, although I'm not a big accu-trigger fan.

The stock is better than most tupperware stocks, definitly stiffer than the Remington SPS stock.

The biggest problem they seem to have is that Marlington can't seem to drill scope mount holes in a straight line anymore.

Really? I visit the Marlin forum all the time and I'd still pick the Marlin over the Axis. Actually, unless I was going to build something custom, I'd even pick the Marlin over the Stevens and base Accu-trigger Savage. In my opinion, the only thing the Savage/Stevens has going for it is the aftermarket.

Hmmm, own one Axis and three Marlin X rifles. No brainer for me, buy the Marlin. I'll not buy another Axis. Have the varmit heavy barrel .308 Marlin and it shoots quite well.

I recommend Savage or Stevens. All the Stevens rifles are, are the pre-accutrigger Savages. Very affordable and very accurate!

I own a Stevens 200 in .25-06 and it's a performance machine. I had Fred Moreo of Sharp Shooter Supply, install one of his custom triggers in it and that made a huge difference. I topped if off with a Weaver 4x16 and have some good reloads going through it.

1 1/4" groups at 200 yards.

Now thats something they seem to have caught from Remington!!! The SPS's in particular are known for off center holes.
