Match Kings for hunting

Here we go again. we have been experimenting, 8 Coyotes have died now with either the 70 SMk from a 243 or the 69 gr SMK from the 223. All pass throughs from various ranges out to 250 yds. Seems to kill good, only had one spinner. Last year when we were shooting ballistic tips and vmax, most of the time there was no exit and they went down hard.

i have used 168gr matchkings on javelina. not good, penciled through taking intestines out the other side, wouldnt have found it except for the intestines getting stuck on cactus and stopping him. exit hole was same size as entry hole.

From everything that I have read there should be no problem using the 69 for hunting. I will be using the Hornady 68gr when I go hunting.

They are usually not recommended for Hunting, because they are not tested for hunting. I have killed bunches of stuff with target bullets.

Don't really care for 69gr Matchkings out of a .223 for coyotes. Can't speak for the .243 variety. Most guys exploring the 69gr MK are doing so because they have a reputation for phenomenal accuracy but the same guys are also usually "hamstrung" with 9 twist barrels.

I've shot a few coyotes with them and have seen a few runners. Having shot a bunch of groundhogs and prairie dogs with the 69 MK, I've had the opportunity to inspect lots of carcasses.........

Usually what I see is controlled expansion type performance, not really what I'm looking for in a coyote bullet. That being said, the faster you push them the better they get! IMO, the 70 gr Berger VLD is far superior both "ballisticly" and terminally. It easily out-does the 69 MK and in the same twist barrels.

As far as coyotes are concerned, I believe it's had to trump the 70gr Berger VLD............For 8 twist guys the 75 A-Max is superior to both!!

I use 52gr Matchkings in my 223 rem and 22-250 and it almost always drops coyotes with farthest being around the 300 yd mark.

I've had no problem getting DRT shots with SMK's. I use the 69gr Blackhills in 223, furthest DRT was a little over 300yds right in the chest. Put them where they go and you shouldn't have a problem IME.
