Mec 9000

I picked up a used Mec 9000 Friday. Its going to make reloading shot shells a lot faster when I learn to pay attention to what the machine and myself are doing. When its working, its fast, really fast compared to my old 600Jr. But when it glitches....what a mess. Sometimes it doesn't drop a primer or the primer doesn't drop in the correct die and not only does it jam but it drops powder in the primer pocket die and the mess starts. I know I need to keep an eye on what the primer is doing but sometimes you just let it slip by. You sure don't want to forget to insert a wad either. Ask me how I know this!! LOL! I think when I get trained its going to be just fine.

I used a Mec Grabber for about 25 years. I learned to watch the primer drop when I pulled the handle down and make sure the shot bar went back to the right every time I let the handle go back up.

When you spill any shot, take the shell lifter "#99" out of the collet sizer so any shot that gets in the sizer can fall out the bottom. Shot inside the collet can't get out if you don't remove the shell lifter. Shot will break the collet sizer and they are expensive.

If you don't pay attention to what you are doing while reloading shotgun shells with a Mec 9000 on every stroke you will have problems. If you let things slip by without thinking about what you are doing you will have many messes to clean up.

LOL, I learned that lesson yesterday. I also saw how much that collet cost. I don't want to replace it very often being forgetful. Its new to me. I'm sure after cleaning up enough mess's. I'll be more mindful about what I'm doing. I watched some video's and those guys make it look simple. But there is a lot going on with every stroke of the handle. One tiny mistake and you got a mess. Right now I need to make sure I do everything I'm suppose to do and not worry about how fast I can go.

Enjoy the 9000. Like most things reloading, there is a little learning curve. I still get a mess every now and then when I don’t pay attention.

With my Grabber if it sounded different or felt different when pulling down on the handle, I learned to stop and figure out what the problem is.
