Medical/Vet Worming Q's?

I hear alot of complaints about vet bills. something to remember is your not paying for the drug or products I am prescribing. You are paying for my brain and education. I spent 8 years in school and came out oweing roughly 80,000 is school loans. I make less than just about every other perfessional out there. I am not complaining, I love my job and have a great life, but don't think we are getting rich because we are not. I had the grades do just about anything i wanted. I chose veterinary medicine because I love it, but it gets under my skin when people act like we are ripping them off. I am honest to a fault and write off a ton of unpaid bills from clients that think that I am the county hospital subsidized by the gov. I do my best to offer as much free advice on places like this as a way to give back to a great place. Ok now I will get off my soapbox. Thanks for what you do, we have a great relation and friendship with our vets. they have very busy and caotic life. On call with emergencys all hours of day and night,weekend etc. And there are too many people that don't realize the finacial responsiblity of owning animals, but still want the services. If you can't afford to due it right with your animals, don't do it at all. Keep up the free advice and continue shooting "Them Yotes" Thanks again
 
nemex or strongid is a good choice for pups. rounds and hooks are what your worried about w/ those. panacur works well, but you have to do it 3 days streight.

1/4 cc of 1% ivomec is what I give my heeler pups, that is at weaning time, do not give it to collie,or aussie type dogs... The hounds all get ivomec....
 
they can be senstive to ivomec due to lack of a barrier that prevents ivomec from moving from the bloodstream into the brain. Its genetic. collies and other herding breeds have it commonly. It can happen in other breeds too but is extreamly rare.
 
Veterinarians are what doctors wish they could be: educated and qualified yet unencumbered by insurance and political bs (think obamacare). I have never had a vet do me wrong or purposely push me in one direction over another for their own gain with regards to the health of an animal. We run cattle and not as a hobby. I don't mean 6 bucket calves in the back 5 acres. I deal with 5 different veterinarians because over the years I have found what each really is great at doing. They're all good at the bread and butter stuff but then they each really shine in certain categories. When I have a problem I go to them and trust them without question because there is no duplicity or underlying agenda.
You guys have a vet here helping answer questions. I would make use of that. I don't mean that in a grouchy manner. Believe me when I say that I know how expensive veterinary care can be but it is simply a cost of doing business and the good ones make you more money than they charge by a long shot. This man is offering advice on his own time for free. That says a lot and is worth a lot.
 
I would use strongid. Again in a pregnant female your worried mainly about rounds and hooks that can be spread directly to the pups.
