guys i'm looking for a very durable corrosion resistent finish.so i've been looking at black ice and camo dipping but i don't know if the black ice is durable.which one is better or is there something else out there that you guy's think is better.thank's
You might check into Robar Industries in AZ... I had a Colt Defender pistol recoated down there as I don't like a shiny weapon for concealed carry.
They treated all the internal parts with NP3 (satin stainless appearance) that is also corrosion resistant.
This finish is rated at able to resist effects of 1000 hours of salt spray. A lot more than I'll ever sweat.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif and, so far, I haven't had to re-lube it as it seems to hold any lubricant very well...
Never heard of black ice, but totch94 has had several of his guns done in Black T by W.E. Birdsong and associates. The coating is also used on our atomic submarines. gregg223 just had some of his guns done with Ceracote and it is also a good coating, he has some pictures posted in firearms section. I was going to do my 1895G blued model done with one of these coatings to make it more weather resistant if it did not sell. I would check with either member and get their take on the coatings. The camodip does provide more weather resistance and wear than blued gun but not as much as the other two mentioned.
I had the Black Ice applied to my 308 after i had it re-barreled with a Hart SS # 3 barrel. I treat my rifles better than i do myself so I may not be the best person to ask for how it holds up to abuse, but can say i love the finish and would recommend it . I had Birdsong do my 25-06 in the Black T finish to cover the McMillian SS barrel and it works very well also and has held up well over the years . The Black Ice was cheaper to have done and the turn around time for the job was a lot quicker. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Top rife 308 and Bottom rifle 25-05
Try duracoat from lauerweaponry.com It is a very durable finish and comes in any color you could imagine. The website has a list of finishers across the states or you can do it yourself.

+1! Me likey!
Robbie Barrkman got the idea for his first coatings from a conversation about corrosion protecting steel hawsers on offshore oil rigs in the North Sea. His work is absolutely top shelf. With my budget, my .45 had to stay parkerized.
Dipped paint coatings are not particularly rugged. My waterfowling buddies started noticing visible wear on their expensive shotguns after about 3 seasons.
Several folks at AR15.COM are having their black rifles duracoated. It's new enough that I'm not sure there's a good answer about its life.
I've been using DuraCoat for a couple of years. I'm very pleased with it. Durability is good and it's not real hard to apply. I've used it on just about all of my firearms. I did one of my ARs, plus some rifles for friends. MI VHNTR
