Shot both of these at night in Mid-Michigan with the .17 WSM. Shot the coyote at about 50 yards or so and got the fox about an hour and a half later about five miles away. Shot the fox at about 35-40 yards.

The round (20 grain not the 25 grain) did not do much damage to either fur. The coyote did not leave much of a blood trail but was easy enough to find. It died over a little hill so when it dropped it was out of view. The fox had some blood and fur where it was standing when shot. The fox did leave more of a blood trail than the yote. I imagine that part of the reason for little blood is that the coats are so heavy this year with the long lasting extreme cold we have had in Michigan this winter.

I shot both of these animals in Montcalm County Michigan on private land. Montcalm County is located in the central portion of the lower peninsula.

It is finally starting to feel like spring may actually come this year but we still have a lot of snow on the ground. I went out yesterday to place a trail cam on a deer carcass I found and went right up to the crotch a couple of times with snow shoes on. That is a lot of snow for this area of the state. It came in early December and we have never really had any kind of significant thaw or warm up this winter.
