Midway just about everything catalog

All the Gun supply catalogs that I recieve could start saving alot of money Immediately, They just have to print what is in stock.. not what was there 5 monthes ago.. The catalogue would be a one page Flyer.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just bought a bunch of 60gr Vmax from Mid South Shooters Supply for $14.79/box compared to $16.99 at Midway or Cabelas, and they were in stock too. Their shipping was no steal, but no worse than the others.

I'm not into hording, but I've got three AR's to feed and the little b@stards are hungry. I've been picking up whatever I can, whenever I can. If for no other reason, this stuff just isnt getting any cheaper tommorow.

I guess I dont begrudge guys like Mr. Potterfield or Mr. Brownell (his prices have gone as well) too much, I just wish I'd have been smart enough to get rich in a buisness I like. Nobody forces us to shop there. They support the shooting sports and the NRA, as well as the shows we like to watch on TV. Sure, its for their own gain, but its for ours as well. I cant vouch for Potterfield, but Brownell's built a VERY expensive shooting range near me. They allow the public to shoot on a very nice clays range and open their pistol and rifle ranges to any LEO or military organization that asks, and have never charged a penny.

A lot of Midway bashing going on here but I buy from them and Midsouth among others. I normally go to whoever can fill my order. I just ordered from Midway on Wednesday morning on-line before work and received it Friday afternoon. Now that's service. My order included Brass, Berger and Dogtown bullets, glass bedding kit and forster bullet puller w/Collet. Midway was the only place that everything I wanted. BTW I sell on ebay also and the postal rates for shipping have recently taken another jump. Don't know about UPS but if their rates haven't gone up I bet they will soon.

Was sorting through a tub of old magazines and catalogs I'd been saving up. Found the Midway just about everything catalog from 2005...made me sad. Just happened to have the new 2009 edition handy.
Most of what I looked at has literally at least Doubled in price, some items more. Anyway, no real point to this post, just an observation.
If you'd like me to check on a certain item for you I'd be happy to look up a few, but you probably don't want to know.
I'm going to throw it away soon so it doesn't keep reminding me how I'm getting shafted.

On a completely unrelated note: Happy Friday! (now I feel better)

I totally agree. I used to be a huge fan of Midway but they have changed over the last few years and not in a good way. Alot of things are not in stock (even years before the rush) and what they have is pretty expensive these days. It's a shame.

Charlie, do I detect a bit of frustration... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nearly, every aspect of the firearms and shooting industry have been bringing in record profits this past year....Places like Midway are doing nothing but forcing the lubricated shaft onto thier customers as a thank you for continued patronage...The problem is what can we do..??? Not much if we want to continue our hobbies, and Potterfield knows it...

This whole thing kinda reminds me of the Oil prices last year but I don't think shooting supplies prices will be dropping anytime soon....

I have a mom&pop store here that does things a little different.. For example they get pretty good money for the powders that are recent arrivels about $25 Lb.. However, if you buy the same powder that they ordered last year or whenever the price tag says $18 and thats what I pay...The reasoning is that they never mark up the price to make say a 30% profit she only wants to make 10% or whatever it is return on her intial investment...

So that being what it is.. They sell CCI 450s for $16.99 per 1,000 box I just bought 5 of them.. Also I just bought a sleeve of 5,000 LR primers that was marked $84 dollars (cause thats what it cost over a year ago when they got it in).. thats pretty cheap.. but I know next time the price will be $140 or so because thats how much more they are paying thier suppliers.. The nice thing is that I know they WILL pass a savings onto their customers and not price gouge you... That is doing good business IMO.. and now I will buy that $25 powder from them instead of getting it for $21 at Sportsmans WH just because I have loyalty to them and they treat customers the old fashioned way.. The Helll with Midway I'm fed up with them as well but somtimes it can't be helped but to ccontribute to lining Potterfields pocket. However lately I try to avoid that for all the reasons you guys bring up... It is a shame isn't it... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

If we as a culture (shooters) keep bashing vendors just because is fashionable, it makes us look like an expert of some sort, and we have a key board, some day we'll have no vendors to bash.

True...prices have risen, but show me something that is still priced like it was in 2000 or 2005. You'll have to look long and hard.

Bottom line: What we do is not a necessity of life. If prices are too high for you to play, find a new game. A pure and simple solution.

But constant internet whining is not a solution to anything except whiners like each other and they flock together like buzzards if one supplies "the blood" to sniff.. As Chris LeDoux used to sing, "There's a Five Dollar Fine for Whining".

For the record, I'm retired and live on a fixed income so I too don't like higher prices. But I'm not going to spend half of my life on the Internet complaining about a few vendors who are the only suppliers of what we buy to play just so I can sound important. If we get rid of the vendors by our own complaining, Wal-mart might be the only answer, and then whining might be a reasonable result.

I think the whole economy is just wearing on folks...Prices overall have gone way up and thats with everyone..

The funny thing is it is from "exactly one year ago"...The topic isn't quite the same but the feeling toward Midway are a bit different.. How things change.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Man a year sure goes fast..

What's with this Midway place anyway,It's gonna send all of us over the edge /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I don't think a little whining is going to make anyone close their doors. I think they are doing pretty good so it might just take a little more than that.

This is just a few guys in agreement that Midway isn't the place it used to be. It's doubtful that the very small group of people that will actually see what is written on some obscure predator forum is going to have any effect on the firearm accessory and reloading supply industry.

If anything is more annoying than whining, it's whining about whining. lol!

Curt:

On my behalf, by all means...Please feel free to be annoyed. And even whine about being annoyed if it helps. No skin off my nose...

My point is whining does absolutely nothing about the prices we pay - just like you stated. So why whine all the time...? Either "pay to play" or find something else that is productive to do. You'll live longer and be much happier doing it.

Allen,,,, you made my point exactly.. My beef isn't with any one vendor,, it's with the GREED... And IMO hoarding is just another form of greed.
The whole thing is just feeding on it's self at this point leaving the guy that just wants a couple hundred primers to shoot Squirrls with stuck in the middle...

The Mom and Pop store you are talking about is doing exactly what the big greedy vendors should do,, and you are doing exactly what you should do by continuing to support them. Consumer loyalty and Cutomer loyalty should be a two way street..

As far as the whining comments go,,, I'm not going to get into that one.
I mean,, isn't LeDoux French anyway /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif???

DuckDog does make a good point though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

In the past month or so I have ordered stuff from Sinclair, Cabelas, Midway, and Natchez. Pretty sad when you have to go to 4 places to fill your needs. I also order stuff from Grafs. Unless I just haven't been paying attention lately, Midway is right about on par with (maybe slightly more) than Grafs or Natchez, and less than Cabelas and Sinclair on most items /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Agreed,, And while we're bashing the greedy bastids,, I guess it's only fair to point out those that have been happy to make a decent living and still sell at a fair price..

I haven't bought from Cabelas in years, but I'm very loyal to Sinclair.Although they've always been a little bit higher than most,, they've held their prices and are now lower than the others... I'm sure their prices will eventually go up when they have to restock at higher prices. Even though I don't like it,, I can understand it,, and will continue to buy from them when I can..
Their shipping is always fair too...

I just placed 2 orders with Sinclair. I forgot a couple items on the first one and it was too late to change the order. The last 2 items were a AR-15 mag follower and a Rem 700 mag follower. They threw one follower in with my original, larger order(on the same invoice), and then created a separate order only for the one follower. They then proceeded to charge me ANOTHER $10.25 for the "second order". It all still shipped in the same box. The 2 followers only weigh a few ozs. I will be calling them on Monday.....

Can't argue with that. And like was said, pretty much everybody is charging more these days. About all a fella can do is try and find a place that you can order everything you need and at least save on multiple orders.

The thing that is "annoying" is my wages seem to be the only thing that isn't increasing (and now the value of my house). lol!

But groceries, gas, guns, reloading stuff, property taxes, etc go up like crazy. And these days those of us that are still employed just feel lucky to be working I guess. (Was I whining again? Dang it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) Good time to be retired. You are a lucky man. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
