Military surplus gunpowder

As prices of reloading materials go higher and higher, I'm always looking for ways to save money on components. I've found a few websites that sell 4 and 8 pound kegs of military gunpowder, but I'm wondering if the stuff is going to be worth buying. Does it compare to any of the gunpowder that I usually buy in 1 pound increments? It does seem cheaper, although the price is rising on it. Has anyone out there had any experience using this stuff and is it worth trying? Thanks for the help.

I have been using military surplus WCC846, which has similar burn rate to BL-C2, for the past fifteen years. I bought 80 lbs of it for a discount price. I think it was around $50 per 8 lbs jug at that time.

It is just as good as commercial powder I had used.

once you understand that mil-surp is ball powder and like all ball powders it is temp sensative. it is quite good, been shooting it for years in my big magnums.

I bought mine from this place. They are totally out of WCC846 as of today.

I guess you have to wait for the war in Iraq and Afghan to be over before seeing them showing up on surplus market. I am glad I stocked up while they were dirt cheap.

Be glad that you did stock up. It is never going to be cheap again. Mil Surplus powder has gone way up like everthing else.
