Military Surplus Snowshoes

Anybody used them? These are the white magnesium ones with the wire 'mesh'. They are so cheap right now I'm thinking about getting a pair. About 40 bucks without the bindings, brand new.
 
Got them myself. They work great and when you get to your setup you can flip them over and use them for shooting sticks.

Just wish I had some snow so that I could use them again.

I know what you mean. Here in MN our snowpack has been a joke all winter. But, it's a real good time to buy snowshoes!

So you use them as shooting sticks too? Sounds like a great idea.
 
Yup...I carry a short length of 550 cord so that when I flip them over I cross the ends. Another added benefit is that the mess part acts as kind of a 3D blind. Works great..especially in the snow...only drawback is if they come from a direction you aren't pointing and then you gotta do some fancy footwork to get your gun on them. I try and wiggle the snow shoes when I plant them in the snow so it at least gives them some leeway for movement.

Yeah...winter up here has been pretty much non-existant. If it did snow then it was usually gone the next day because it would immediately rain. Don't understand it. It's 17 FEB and the ground is green. We are usually still eyeballs deep in snow around here.
 
Jinxed where in NY are you that you dont have snow. I figured even if it didnt snow this year there would be enough left from last year.
 
I live in pulaski NY which is the snowbelt of NY and we havent had hardly ANY snow. Its green right now here. Its also been too warm to get out and go icefishing. Only been once so far.
 
Bluetick thats crazy. I went to school in Syracuse and would hunt Tug hill. Its hard to believe there is no snow in that country. Where are you guys finding those snow shoes. We don't use them as much out here but they would be handy in the high country.
 
Those are nice snowshoes! Yea what a joke of a winter here too. I hope it rains in the spring or things are gonna be real bad. Can I ask where you got those snowshoes?
 
Ive been looking at them also but the price was a little higher. I think you can use the magnesium for fire starting also so you can grill your coyote over one of snowshoes.
