MIlspec or Commercial Tube

Is there any advantage or disadvantage of going with a Milspec vs a Commercial buffer tube assembly, or is this just a bunch of hype.

I have two mil-spec tubes with mil-spec Magpul MOE stocks and they don't have the wiggle that I had with the standard commercial stocks. Not sure if it's because of the Magpul stock or mil-spec tubes fitting better. As far as advantages go, one or the other seems to work fine, no difference in the buffer or spring, just the outside diameter of the tube.

Some of the Magpul stocks (like my CTR) come in both a commercial and mil-spec version. Sounds like you might have had a mis-match.

If you end up with the large OD tube and the small ID stock, they won't even assemble, so in a way you got lucky.

My CTR has a friction-locking cam built into it, and when you lock that down, there's zero wiggle. That's why I went with that one (it's hideous ugly, but it's solid as a rock).

Best idea is to either:

If you already have a buffer tube, order a stock that fits,
or order the buffer tube OD that matches the stock you want to use.

But anyway, here's a good link showing the differences:

commercial vs. mil-spec buffer tubes

Unless you plan on mixing & matching in the future it does not matter a bit. You just need to get the correctly sized tube & stock to start off with. I put together a project a year ago when parts were scarce & went 'commercial' Magpul CTR. I have no plans to change & have a fine tight fit.
