mini 14

Well......to start with, accurate Mini's are few and far between. Even the folks at Ruger will tell you that they aren't the most accurate rifle on the planet.

Here is the BEST place for Mini's that I know of: http://ruger-mini-14-firearms.com/

What type of groups are you getting now, and what would you like to see? Mini's that shoot 2" @ 100 yards are WAY above average.

Try perfectunion .com . And yes its rare to find an out of the box mini that will print sub 2" groups but with a few simple and cheap mods it is entirely possible to get one to do just that.
Ive heard that the new model is a little better than they used to be.

blusam, I have not tried the perfectunion, but i did give accuracy systems a try. The site that nibbler posted is where I sent my rifle. They did a great job. very fast and nice work. give them a call and talk to them. a total accuracy job will run around 850.00. new gas block, new barel, new trigger and glass bedded.

It will not shoot with the ar, accuracy is around 1.5 moa. It may get better after it is shot a bit as most rifles do. I have about 100 rounds through it.

This is not to bash Mini's! I just can't understand spending that much money on a Mini to only get it to shoot as good as a out of the box AR to start with. I understand that everyone has their own ideas of what they would like to have.

Steve I agree. This was a gift from FIL several years ago. It was free to start with. then it got to be a matter of principal to make it shoot. I was faced with using it as a fence post or getting it worked on. I do like the way it carries better than an ar. It shoulders well with a scope. No way I would pay 500 for one then have it accurized. It and my AR's are the only centerfire semi-autos I own, all the others are bolt. Thought it would make a nice little truck gun if I could make it shoot. I am taking it out tomorrow to put a few more rounds through it. I need to check sights on my .17, 223 and 220 for my trip to Colorado. hope to bust some PD's

hummm...my mini that was built by asi would shoot 1moa or less all the time...it averages .5's

New guy here weighing in on the Mini-14 accuracy issue. As many have stated, making a Mini a respectable shooter (sub 2 MOA) is a fairly cheap and easy recipe. The guys at perfectunion.com have it down to an art. Mainly you just need to change the harmonics of that whippy barrel by hanging something off it. I think an old boot would even work. Some bedding and trigger work helps too. My Ranch now consistently puts 3x 45gr whitebox HPs into 1.5" at 100. Working on gearing up for handloads. I went a little different route than the muzzle brake that most use and have a length of stainless pipe hanging in reverse from the end of my barrel. There are better-designed commercial versions available for around $200, but I tried this and it worked great. I also had the trigger tweaked a little. I hope that a bedding job and handloads will bring it closer to MOA. I like the Mini! Now I just need to get you guys to teach me how to get some song dogs in front of it!

Welcome to the board Shoot.

By the way, they make medication for droopy barrels now, you don't have to hang steel off the end of them anymore. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
