Minnesota Bear Hunters

Anybody having any luck?

I am a rookie hunting in the N0-quota area. I had my baits going strong before the season opened but, they have gone cold. I suspect the great number of acorns to be a factor.

I was wondering if baiting gets better or worse with the cooler weather?

Thanks

If you have been following the reports, you'll see that hardly anyone is having any luck this year. Tons of berries that are later than usual and tons of acorns. All this means very few bears hitting baits.

I have twelve baits out and the first week had six of then hit hard. Second week was down to five and not hit so hard. Opener found four baits hit and very lightely. We have spent numerous nights on the baits and have yet to see a bear.

What area of the no quota zone are you hunting? How many baits do you have out?

Baiting should get better as time goes on up to a point. Bears begin to become less active around the fist of Oct as they prepare to hibernate. I'd say these next two weeks are your best bet. Freshen those baits and spend some time out there. And... Let me know how you are doing!

Good luck.
