missouri coyote hunting?

This time of year there are no regulations as to caliber or shot size when it comes to coyote hunting. During the November and antlerless portions of deer season you can only hunt other wildlife with a rimfire .22 cal or smaller and shotgun with no bigger than #4. I also believe you will need the non-resident furbearer license but I may be wrong on that.

This part applies during the deer gun season, which isn't until Nov 13th.
 
we go several times a year so i think the money is worth it really. i mean heck i've spent alot more than that on yote hunting
 
I live in Missouri and for the most part have trouble
figuring out some of the licensing, etc. I only have the
small game permit.

That all being said, I was in the NW part of the state this
week and there were coyotes and foxes everywhere. On my
way back home yesterday I saw 4 more dead coyotes and 2
dead foxes on the stretch of I-29 between the 2 Savanah
exits.

This time of year I expect to see at least 1 dead deer
along the road every mile. Didn't see any.

Don't even ask why I've started noticing all the road kill.
It's a new quirk thanks to a nephew.
 
I am pretty sure that if you have a deer tag, you can hunt coyotes with a centerfire rifle during deer seasons. You may not be able too during muzzleloader though.

Some area's like some islands and such have a permanent rimfire/shotgun restriction.
 
okay i talked to mcd today. all you need is a small game permit. unless you plan on sellin hides then you have to buy furbearer permit. during deer season you have to have a deer gun permit to hunt coyotes with a centerfire rifle. if no deer gun permit then you have to stick with .22 rimfire or smaller.
 
If that's the answer you got (doesn't surprise me),then more power to ya. But, if you get stopped...Don't say you weren't warned.
The problem is, the MDC rules are so unclear, most of the people you talk to don't know the answers.

But, riddle me this...
Why would they sell a "Nonresident Furbearer Hunting Permit"?
I hope you're right, I really do, It would save me $130 and open up a lot of land to hunt,...but I'm afraid the person you talked to isn't in full understanding of the law.

This is how it reads in the MDC regs:

Nonresident Small Game Hunting Permit...$80
For frogs, bird [except Turkey],mammals [except Deer and FURBEARERS ]

So the out of state coon hunters and callers can come in and hunt.
 
I don't think you need a furbearers license for coyotes. We hav a set furbearers season in missouri and it includes fox, bobcat, badger and other critters but coyotes aren't included in that.

te real truth is this i've never seen a warden there. in addition to that if i get stopped and am in the wrong it is not my fault i did the responsible thing and called them and will be going by what they said. they can't really argue that unless they want to be real hard on me which i highly doubt because i'll not be offending anyone or doin anything that would make me suspect. if approached i will show them respect and courtesy and be honest about the whole thing. generally when your that way with people they tend to be that way with you.
 
I grew up in Wright County, bootmud. Hartville, to be exact. Still hunt around there. What part of Wright County did you hunt?

it was unbelievbly dry saturday. the beagles had a real tough time. sunday morning coyotes ha ha. i walked out the hotel and quickly realized i didn't bring enough clothes. i have no clue as to how to call in yotes with winds that strong. i made several stands with not a single dog spotted. i tink i could've set up within fifty yards of one and he couldn't have heard me.
 
It's possible that with that cold front coming through the state, they were sleeping in...Just a bad weather break...

Where abouts did you end up going ?

It was a tad bit breezy over the weekend but I don't remember it being very cold.
 
E-mail the mcd and ask the question that way, If they respond back then keep the copy and if stopped and it becomes an issue you will have it. Even if the warden would write you a citation the e-mail would more than likely get everything dropped by the courts.
 
RJMacres up this way it was in the mid 30's both mornings with frost advisory. Not exactly what I call cold but definately cooler than it has been. What was it down your way?
 
We've been in the low to mid 40's in the mornings this
past week. It's felt great. No frost yet but I think
we may get that tonight.

After the long hot dry summer we had, this cool weather is
nice.
