Model 1 sales uppers and kits

Rustydust, if we ever have the chance to varmint hunt together you bring your pants and you can shoot a gun or two or of mine if you happen to forget your model 1. If you forget your pants then we ain't gonna go huntin' and I'm gonna go home! :

Mine too. It has the 24" barrel with a 1-14" twist and I have let people shoot it that have never pulled the trigger on an AR before that have shot 5 into a dime at 100 yards with it. I would almost rather forget my pants than leave my Model 1 home on a varmint hunt.

Yeah on some of those warm days under the sun, no pants and shooting the AR sounds great.

My first ever AR was a M1S 20" Hbar standard rifle kit that I assembled and it shot lights out! I have had one other since then and it was not so hot. I am a firm believer that there are three major components to an accurate AR. A good barrel, trigger, and optic/mount. Model 1 uses E.R. Shaw barrels just like almost every other mail order kit company. If I wanted the best chance of getting a very accurate rifle with a shaw barrel, I would get an Hbar contour in chrome-moly.

Well all this is very good to hear. They are reasonably priced, and I would love to put one together with a NFA polymer lower for a good budget coyote gun!

That's exactly what kind of setup I'm looking to do.

What rails are those?

And yes the complete kit is all the parts to assemble a rifle, minus the stripped lower.

I can't speak from any personal experience, but I was looking at Model 1 sales myself because of how cheap their varmint uppers are, until a friend of mine told me to do some checking on them. A quick search over at ar15.com will show you they've got like a 50/50 reputation. 50% of the time peoples orders come out OK. the other 50% of the time peoples orders get messed up, some people where getting erroneous charges on their credit cards, had to cancel the cards, report it as credit card fraud, etc. and they grip about horrible customer service with Model 1.

Just an FYI, do some checking , and buy at your own risk.

IF I remember correctly, this was a 2-3 month period, several years ago. Just like the 7.62x39 ARs are bad thing, it takes along time for "facts" to die.

As far as quality, I have 2, and I am looking for a third. Do they make little holes, I don't know, I shoot Comblock crap through them. I don't have $3K to buy whatever 3 letter word is in vogue now, so I shoot my used uppers and make holes in what I shoot at. I don't think I would go with an M1S kit if I wanted to compete, but for the range I can shoot the gun, I don't think the animal I am shooting is gonna care what name is on the barrel.
