Model 7 in 17rem

I can not say bout the custom 17 bullets, never tried any. I tried the original 17 Rem factory ammo and the newer stuff too, both 25 gr. I shot a handfull of Reds and they all needed way to much thread to fix'em.

The one that bothered me the most was a nice female Red that I called in from 1/2 mile away. She sat down and looked my way at 100-150 yards. I shot her tween the shoulders and blew the spine out . Had a hole big enough to put aleast 1 softball through.

I love the round, but it's not been what I wanted. I may revist it someday, but maybe a 17HH first.

Nice rifle...

You might want to stick with that one piece base that's on there since the older M7's only have one mounting hole in rear of the reciever.

Yepper. My one 'oldy' Seven that's now a 7-08 has a Leupy one pc. base for that very reason. And concidentally, a VXIII 2.5-8x36 on top. Twisted minds think alike, huh Charlie???

Corey, one more thing. I maaaaaaay just have a brandy new factory laminated Seven stock in storage. I bought two a while back for builds, and haven't put either to use yet. One is for my .22-243, but the other is unspoken for. Lemme make sure I've still got 'em & I'll send you a PM if you are interested...

David,

I was going to either email or call you and tell you this no good so-and-so done bought another toy and you're gonna be jealous

. Sold some of those "lucky" certificates I had stored up to help ease the cost. Sold them off and now have a few other little items to get rid of before I relax. I wasn't looking to buy just yet, but when something like this shows up, you just do it and figure it out later
grin.gif
. Now I have two new rifles to work up before the chucks come out. I haven't gotten but 50 rounds out of the 243 yet, LOL.

Charlie,

She won't go Bobbit on me, but a rubber hose or wet phone book to the ribs is entirely possible

I've had a few coyotes like that. One female that is still vivid in my mind, it pretty much blew up her entire exit side to smithereens. Still, 10 years later, I don't completely understand what happened. But she was close, probably 50 yards, and she was fairly small. Most yotes that I've shot I have to investigate to see where I hit it.

I've had real good results on fox with the factory 25's, but again I've had a couple that simply looked like they'd been hit with a grenade. I think that if you hit some shoulder bone, the round can be pretty messy.

I'm looking forward to the 17 HH as well.

64K, have you had and issues with Reds ,when shooting them in the mid section ? I shot one last rib area and when exiting the energy pulled guts with it and tore a big hole.

I have noticed the farther away the bette on Reds ,like 200+ .

I've probably only shot a dozen reds and about as many greys with a 17 Rem so I don't consider my sample to have too much overall validity. However, I only remember of a couple of fox that were tore up badly, and they were both shoulder hits.

For a DEDICATED fox gun, it's probably a little on the hot side. I'm hoping the 17 HH will fit the bill perfectly. I don't reload, but you could obviously load the 17 rem down to 17 HH velocity pretty easily.

You have a better sample than mine. I quit before I got as far as you.

I would agree ...close range it's a tad "hot".

I'll bet it does. The few dedicated Fox hunters I know personally moved to the 17AH years ago.

As far as loading the 17Rem down to hornet speeds. I'm betting that short barrel takes care of that. LOL
Reguardless of what the "experts" say about 25fps per inch, I can tell you for possitave that I lost 150 when I whacked my 24" PN down to 22". Who knows,,, that little M7 just might turn into a great little Fox getter.

Fred,,,,,,, Twisted minds indeed!

Cory,,,, A nice little fixed power Weaver Classic (in Gloss finish) wouldn't set ya back to much.

This place and others have been real HARD on the wallet .

I'll play with it and see if I can get a handload to be where I need it on fox. I will be handloading by the time the whistlepig pups arrive and have plenty of tender test subjects to try it on. Those and feral felines are great comparisons to a fox hide

This place is hard on a wallet. So far I figure this place and Snipers Hide has cost me more than $8000-$10,000 and I'm not even going hard at it. That dang 243 seems like half of it and Foxpro is getting a small share too. I quit golf, snuff, and cigarettes (all dirty habits

). I figure something has to fill the void.

thats easy to do. wait till you have 4500-5000 in just one rifle before you pull the trigger. your not suppose to tell momma everything.

I've got about $3500 in the 243 I just finished and it is a poor build by most standards. I caught myself drooling over a Stiller group buy the other day. Now what the heck was I thinking

? Darn Al Gore and his evil internet

. I hope to be putting tiny little holes in paper by this time tomorrow and see how this new little devil is going to do. If it can do an inch at 100yds, hunting she goes without a doubt. I'll try to post some factory load targets and scoped up pictures sometime this weekend. Probably Sunday since we can't hunt here on Sunday

Old saying, "He who fights with wife all day will have no piece at night". They always find out. Just like I know about the shoes, I just ignore them because... I HAVE A MODEL 7 IN 17 REMINGTON

. Man that felt good. Now back to ignoring shoes some more

That was good.

Blowing up a fox is why I have avoided the 17s . I am hoping the 17 HH will be the foxs meow .
I can keep the exit holes down to 2" with a 308 .
Plus I'm sticking with new Rugers for bolt guns . With maybe an Axis thrown in for good measure.
