I was getting ready to order a couple of Mojo critters and I thought I'd check the reviews at Cabela's first.

Dang!!

Bad on/off switches and broken plastic comments everywhere!
Have they gotten the bugs worked out yet?

I loved my Mojo Critter, until an Owl flew off with it. The only complaint is you cant push it to hard into the ground or it will break. Its was a pain when the ground was frozen. I think Baystate Yote had made a neat holder for it that solved that problem.

Here's the thing.

Its a predator decoy, turns out you can't use it as a baseball or a hockey puck, can't use it as a wedge to keep your camper from rolling down a hill. Button pushes easy, you don't need to hit it with a hammer.

Yea, trying to force it into rock hard ground isn't the most intelligent idea either.

If you are lacking common sense, you may want to turn yourself a housing out of steel bar stock, go ahead and turn yourself a 2" stake while your at it. This way you can use it as a bit for your jackhammer should the need arise.

In other words, it's a decoy, use it as such and you'll be a happy guy, treat it like garbage and it becomes such.

fw707 - there are many reviews on here, including several that document the casing flaws. There are threads that show workarounds,

and many others that indicate the improved versions have solved the problem (no first hand knowledge here on the latter, but much on the former).

I own one and will probably buy another one. I customize everything I own anyway, so it doesn't bother me if the plastic housing breaks.

BTW, since making the flat base for it I have never used the stake. It stays up in strong winds with that base. The only other method for mounting it I use is in tall grass or sage I strap it to a fence post or a bush:

The mojo action is the best there is IMO.

Holy smokes....

Are you saying everyone that broke their decoy was abusing it ?

Wow !

I by no means treat my equipment harshly. I did not just stab or jam this product into the ground. The combination of frozen ground and extremely cold plastic housing, led to its demise. The design of a metal stake screwed into flimsy plastic is where the problem lies, great product, just not completely thought out. Maybe the new ones are, mine was a bought in 2009. I take care of my stuff, i don't treat it like garbage.

WAke yourself a new housing out me inch and a Iake ABS pipe its worth the twenty minutes ill takes to make. Or you can take it out and have it break no you on your first stand. I love my critter now that its got a new tough case with adjusting screw for the tall brushy spots

"The Mojo Puppy"

That looks like something my kid won at the fair last night, while eating a corn dog

Put your MOJO-CRITTER on any small tri-pod, and it works like a charm! No jamming it into the hard ground, just open the tri-pod legs, set it down and start calling.

Jeff

That tripod Idea is a good one. I think i have an old one I used for my spotting scope down in my den. However, I still need to replace the one that was stolen by the owl. I guess I need to tie it down next time.

I really like the tripod because some of the area's I hunt are pretty thick cover, and if you set it on the ground, the coyote can't see if for all the scrub brush, but on top of that tripod, it stands up over the top of the bush's and really get's their attention!
