Moly Coating barrels

Anyone ever moly coat a barrel on their rifle and ont the bullets themselves? Someone suggested doing that to keep from from fauling the barrel out. He said you could get it through Cabela's. This is a topic that has probably been covered a hundred time's, but I haven't heard about it.

Moly will help cut friction and make cleaning easier. But Moly will draw moisture and can cause rusting in a non stainless barrel. While a moly treated barrel with Moly bullets are easier to clean, they MUST BE CLEANED every time. also once you barrel is treated for moly coated bullets you really should not shoot uncoated bullets as they will strip the moly treatment so the barrel will have to be retreated.

I have ran about 1K moly'd bullets down my broughton 1-8" 223AI since the last time a cleaning rod was ran down the barrel. It's a good thing I don't own a borescope, eh!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Yes, you being in Michigan, I am sure the borescope view would scare you. Barrels can still shoot well with a fair amount of uniform corrosion.

Jack, I certainly won't disagree with you...as I haven't ever looked down a barrel with a borescope...but, if they continue to print groups like they do, I won't look down them, just to disappoint myself. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif As long as they shoot well is all I ask, if they don't, I'll give them a cleaning and if that doesn't work, I'll replace them since life is short and barrel's are cheap.

i have seen no draw back what so ever.i use the berger bullet cleaning procedure.i sent my 22br to a friend of mine to have a stock built.he has got a bore scope and checked out the barrell asked me how many rounds had been fired.when i told him 2000+ he could believe it.said the barrel looked new.i put 5000+ round down a 7mmstw before it went south.both these guns had hart match barrels on them.i break my barrels in and clean them after i shot them.walt berger told me the jb bore plast and kroll was the trick to shooting the moly coated bullets.

Try moly-fusion.com. This is a liquid treatment for metal. It will stop copper fouling, I only get powder fouling now. I have had it in my barrel for three or more years now. It is not the molydulsulfied, or what ever the moly coating on bullets is called. It doesn't coat the steel it enters it in the molicular stage, what the guy told me. T.20
