Spotlight took another a$$ kickin two nights ago. He was one out on a big badger, it went to ground, but didn't have enough hole. Spot tried a "proven tactic"( /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif)"Let the badger get your face, and "pull back".
Half the hide is ripped off his bottom jaw, and the "digger" got down the hole out of reach.
I took this pic,(after doctorin), It should heal up alright. He also broke a tooth.
Vargy, you wanna play? I'll save this one for you. I didn't kill it yet. Sorry the pic is poor, dam phone cams.

This is what a "good badger catch" should look like.
I filmed this Labor Day last year. For those that don't know, Buckshot is my lead stud. He is "the real deal". This badger weighed 24#.One bite killed it, the rest was "play".
Thats how I like to see a badger catch.

When ever I took a whipping (which was most of the time) my Pop would say "try not to lead with your chin next time". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Badgers are tough critters,,, hope he heals up OK.

DA I kill badgers, partly for fun, partly for profit, and mostly because they destroy my feilds, and cause lots of equip.damage.
I'm more concerned with infection, than the actual bite.
I think I'm ahead of it.
By the way, I talked to a "Vet" freind today, she said to only use peroxide for a first wash out.Peroxide, can kill the naturally occurring antibobies that are in the dogs body at the wound.I had never heard that before. For now its "Furall", and "Procain -G" in the muscle.
As for killin the badger, It will get killed, but waitin a week or so is no big deal. I gotta have a few around when Vargy gets here.

My vet told me to delute the proxide so it wont do that!! It will still kill the germs just not every thing else.

Da I hunt predators becuase I enjoy callin, and runnin my dogs.It just happens that I have some calves around.
There needs to be a "balance" in everything, I just do what I can to keep things even.

Good vid and good looking dog.

Badgers are a giant pain, they generally dont stay in holes too long, which means they get to dig another. Our property has a ton of old holes, havent seen one there in awhile, but it doesnt mean they arent there.

If I had a hole dog, I bet Id have enough holes to keep him busy all dang year if I wanted to shovel that much.

Duane did you sell any badger fur this year? I was told by my buyer last year the price was good, this year I didnt bother to ask.

Dave

Kal52, We have two types of badgers here,(accordin to the buyers) A "hair badger" (junk) and a "Fur badger" (Good money). I sell badgers to a guy in the mid west for makin archery quivers. He wants color, and doesn't care about fur.I don't really follow the fur price on them.

Some day I will put a coyote in front of my pup. I am haven a [beeep] of a time right now. So when the time comes and Im sure it will do you duys do a certain amount of vet work on your dogs or do you just take them to the vet? Also whay may be some good things to carry in case your dog does get in a good scrap? And What do you do for them?

if i can fix it i do, to much time and money to go everytime they get cut, i can sew and staple and thing like that, if it ain't bad give them a shot and it will heal.

I doctor as much as I can. About the only time I take a dog to the vet is if it gets "hit by a rig".Like Trapper said, stitch if they need it. I worry about infections, so I give antibiotics.

I like the video Duane. I liked the other video with the coyote even better. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Tony, I got hours, and hours of them, all types of game, just figured out today how to get video onto the puter. There will be more to follow, don't worry.
Thanks for the kind words. Duane

If i can do vet work anyone can. Ya antibiotics and fishing line is what i used the two times i stitched up one of my dogs, seemed to work pretty well.
