I think i may of asked this before but dont remember. I recently sold one of my guns in order to buy a new coyote rifle. What im wondering is if the mossberg 100 atr is worth the money. I can get it from my local wal-mart for $249 bucks. Never owned a mossberg other than my bolt action shotgun that dont get shot very much. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Josh

For the same price, I would go with a Stevens 200. I have yet to see one that has not been accurate. My 200 in .223 astounds me every time I shoot it for the $279 I payed for it.

I'm a Remington and CZ guy, but sure agree with coyotekiller on the Stevens. I just adjusted the trigger on a friends 270 Mossberg ATR and once you file a slot in the breakaway trigger adjusting screw it can be adjusted a little, but it's not near as easy as adjusting the Savage triggers. Plus there are all kinds of aftermarket triggers and stuff available for the Savages and none for the Mossberg.

I'm not downgrading Mossberg as I have an 835 turkey gun that is really great and their model 500 shotguns are great. I do have to say that my friends ATR shoots pretty good.

The Stevens would probably be the safe choice. It has an adjustable trigger and a proven reputation in that it is actually the older Savage 110 action.

That said, I have two ATR's (.30-06 & .308) and a friend has a .243. Each has performed very well and will group with the best on the market. My buddy's .243 is about a year old and mine are four and three years old, respectively. Over time the triggers have worked in very well. My '06 trigger is about a light as I would want in a sporting rifle. My buddy does not hunt, so his rifles are range guns. His .243 trigger has worked into being VERY light.

The ATR's have a nice target style recessed crown and the barrel is a bit thicker at the muzzle than the Stevens. The ATR also comes with scope bases already mounted.

Given that the ATR is still available for $249 and the Stevens are becoming harder to find for under $300, the choice is tough. I stand by my original comment, however.

Just for the record, in addition to the two ATR's I also have five Stevens 200's. Not because I prefer the Stevens over the ATR, lately I've found some good deals at a local pawn shop on a couple of Stevens.

Personally, I prefer the feel of the Mossberg. It has a more weighty, solid feel than the Stevens. In my experience, one will not out shoot the other. Each is capable of consistent MOA, sometimes less. Not bad for a sporting rifle.

Good luck.
