OK, i got a Mossy 835 Ulti-mag from a friend real cheap...free. It has a top folder stock, but the issue is he bubba'd the stock 28" barrel by chopping it off to 18.5 and then cutting these stupid points on it, i don't know what the heck he was doing. anyway I want to turn it into a packable dog gun to put in a scabbard on my pack, but it needs a new barrel. anyone know where i can get a 20" smooth turkey barrel? the new tactical turkey with the accu chokes would be great but i can't find just that barrel. i think a 24" and definitely a 28" would not work with the folding stock. suggestions are welcome and begged for! thanx, RK out

ahhh look a little closer, first place i went..do not sell the 20"! it's too bad. anyway got a 24" with the fiber optics off gun broker for $50, so that aint so bad. I wish that they sold the tactical turkey barrel seperate. thanx for the post though. how's it going up in Goodyear? I'd like your opinion, it comes with the accumag xtra full turkey choke, i know i have to pattern, but what do you think?

ok here is a question, aside from buying all of the choke tubes, at $22.95 a piece for the carlsons, how the heck do you pattern the dang thing? i'm used to my browning BPS 12 and 20 for upland birds only. i don't want to spend a hundred bux just to pattern the shotty.

Only way to tell is to go out and shoot it. I have the 835 with the 24" barrel and still need to pattern mine, so I can't tell you what works best for me yet. I was able to buy a bunch of Winchester 3" lead BB shot for about $14 a box, so that's what I'll be using. I know most recommend #4 buck, which is .24 caliber and BB is .177 caliber. What you gain with the BB shot is there's 34 more pellets per ounce of shot. This should equate to less holes in a pattern. Take this for what it is, conjecture - since I haven't shot a 'yote with a shotgun.

What part of AZ are you in? If you're close, we can get together and pattern both of ours at the same time. I have a few aftermarket chokes in addition to the turkey choke that came with my shotgun. We can see what works best.

If you have a hundred bucks, just buy a Patternmaster choke tube, get some 3-1/2" Dead Coyote shells and don't worry about it, it will knock Wile E.'s d!@% in the dirt from about 70 yards on in(some claim further). Just shoot it at a piece of cardboard at 25 or so and 60-70 yards so you know where its hitting(it won't change much between those ranges). The $30 alternative is a Dead Coyote choke tube. I have both and although they tend to throw a similar pattern on paper, the patternmaster seems to do a better job a little further out on live critters. I've tried a heap of different shells and keep going back to the dead coyotes. They're pricey and kick like an elephant gun, but you're not buying them to shoot clay pigeons with.
