Mossberg MMR Hunter Trigger Options

I'm about to pull the pin on a new Mossberg MMR as my first AR. Price is definitely a factor here, but I am used to custom bolt guns so one area I want to improve immediately is the trigger. I heard it's pretty stiff and I'm used to 1.5-2 pound triggers. I'd like to get this one to no more than 3 pounds if possible. I think that will improve accuracy in a huge way, especially for that all important first shot. Problem is I can't find any info on aftermarket triggers for the MMR.

I'm pretty ignorant regarding ARs though, so could it be that all aftermarket AR triggers are interchangeable between the MFG's? Had anyone tweaked the trigger of a MMR yet?

There is a pretty decent, yet limited write up on the weapon here: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2012/08/foghorn/gun-review-mossberg-mmr-tactical/ and while not specific, I would think the upgrade potentials are pretty much the same as any other AR...I know the writer of the article pretty well slammed the trigger from the start...

You might look to the Chip McCormick drop in, in the 3# model..I have one in my competition DPMS and it's always given me good service and a consistent trigger pull...There are others on the market that also have a good reputation, just read reviews on them before making a decision..

As far as I know, the lower on an MMR is a standard AR lower. This means any aftermarket AR trigger should fit. I put Jard Adjustables in all my AR's. They take a little to set up but are fully adjustable and you can get them as low as 1# I believe.

Now you're talking. If I can have a 1.5 pound crisp single stage trigger, that would be fantastic. Funny how once you get used to varmint rifle triggers that everything else seems so dang stiff.

Yes its all standard AR15 stuff in the MMR. I own 2 of them.
I put a JP spring kit in one of them & took the trigger to 3.5lbs lbs.
The other I dropped in a Timney 3lb trigger....makes 100% difference no matter which one.
The Timney is 200% better than the spring kit & the JP kit is 400% better than the stock trigger.

Thanks 5 spd. If you don't mind me asking, are you handloading or using factory loads in your MMR, and what loads are you finding shoot best for coyotes out of the rilfe?

I handload for all my guns & my AR15 .223 loads are:
50g vmax in front of 27.5g W748
55g vmax in front of 27g w748
COL for both is 2.250", both over the chrony spit at a tad under 3200 fps in the 20" bbl.
In my 24" bbl. bolt gun the 50g load is at 3370 and the 55g at 3240 fps. Both are moa to 400 yards also.
Both those will drop any coyote around.

Okay thanks. All my reloading gear is back home still, but I have two friends here that load. Perhaps I can pick up some components if I can find some and get some time at their bench if I bring beer...for after.

If not I'll look for some factories and try them out. Gonna order me a brass catcher too. Just found one for like $10 and will paint it up to match the rifle.

Now I'm struggling on scopes. Was ready to pull the pin on a nikon coyote special in brush camo 4-12 on ale for $279, but found some refurbished M223 in 4-12 with BDC 600 reticles for the same price. They are WAY better scopes, but it would be matte. Kinda had my heart set on matching camo scope with black P.E.P.R mounts, but I'm not sure how I'll like the predator reticle and I have three other Nikon scopes, a Monarch and a monarch gold scopes and a tactical and I'm not sure how I'll be able to deal with the pro-staff quality glass after being spoiled on the other three I have. Might have a chance to do some night hunting too, so I'm thinking that scope might bug me.

Done deal. Got the Pepr and the 4-12x40 Coyote special in brush camo. Gonna go crazy waiting out the 10 day hold. Wow. Kinda used to Canada where we walk in and walk out in 10 minutes.
