Mossberg MVP 5.56 Bolt action

Think I'll hold out for an accuracy report as well. I like the BR style stock and it should only take a gunsmith a few minutes to make it a short barreled rifle if need be.

Hey Guys...if you want to see pics of the different models, Gallery of Guns has pics of them.

Anything over 20" in a .223 will not increase velocity,,maybe even decrease it.

18" WOULD BE IDEAL

Release date not specified...except 2012.

And where did you come up with this nugget of misinformation????????

Jack

Given a long enough barrel, there will eventually be a point in which the bore friction and air pressure in front of the bullet will equal the gas pressure behind it. At this point, the velocity of the bullet will start to decrease.

You will notice if you read it,,one rifle tested lost NO velocity until they cut below 22"

Heres one article on the subject Jack..maybe they are lying for some reason???????...

I knew i had read it somewhere.

It helped me decide on a 20" over a 24" ar15

Plus other information about accuracy decreasing in longer tubes...with shorter being more rigid and such helped.

why do you guys want a shorter barrel...?

I just like shorter barrels for ease of use, getting in and out of trucks, walking through woods, just don't like those big long barrels, plus I haven't shot far enough where the velocity would actually make a difference.

Are you really saying the 308 burns the same as the 223 we are talking about? I run a 20" 308 and also a 26" 308 and know you only get about 60fps more with the 6" more barrel length in my rifles, on the other side I know for a fact the 223 can gain some velocity from the 20-26" barrel. You really need to read the article and use the same bullet used. That is like saying because of that article I was foolish to go 30" on my edge shooting the 300s because I could of gotten all my velocity out of 20".

This is funny to me; all the AR shooters want 24 inch barrels and all the bolt guys want 16 & 20 inch barrels.

24 inch barrel has always been know to get the most out of any round. The M4 are rated as a 500 meter rifle with a 14 inch barrel firing the ss109.

This MVP is not a 223 remington it is a 5.56x45mm. If you want a 223 rem go buy a CZ or a 700. They have the correct chamber.

This MVP has a chamber for the 5.56x45mm round.

No problem shooting 223 in 5.56. They prefer you don't do it the other way around as it is a little higher pressure and brass runs a tad thicker. To many people shooting 5.56 in 223 rifles accurately to say it don't work.

I posted before on this. I liked the rifle out of the box but took it back to the gunshop and talked to them about the screw problem. They sent all the ones they had back.

I got my money back.

The front screw was holding by one thread,

I had called Mossberg for more screws but have not recieved any yet. I do not have the rifle but they do not know that. Mossberg has not call me back about the problem. 3 months ago

I own two Mossberg shotguns and they are okay. My Gunsmith told me they are hard to get parts from.

This will be my last Mossberg.

I would like to see some real world accuracy /groups from one ofe these rifles...The videos ive watched were way less than impressive...MR.1moa??...sorry im still laffin at that.

Hittin big steel at 300...sometimes...or groups at 50 yards..nope.
