Most accurate .243 under $1200?

1.5 MOA is 1.5 inches at 100, 3.0" at 200, and 4.5" 250
double the range, double the MOA figure. 4.5"/2 = 2.25"
~6mm

Better try that again 6mm. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Todd

Did someone say Savage? I thought so. You shopping for bedroom furniture or an accurate rifle? Savage will git'r dun.

You two are right, it's just under 2". My bad, I was looking at the figure at 300. Even better!! So even if your rifle "only" shoots 1.5 MOA it can hit a clay pidgeon everytime at 290 yards or so. I don't think I can shoot that good, can you? ~6mm

I have Tikkas in 223, 22-250, 243 and 300 win mag.
my 223 shoots into a 1/4 inch
my 22/250 shoots into 3/8
my 243 one raggety hole, all with factory ammo. about 7 lbs, scope and all(teensy bit more) I have $750 invested in it with a 3X9 Leupy mounted. the price has gone up some but my brother is still selling them for 600 or less.

I have no problem at all saying that the Tikka is the best buy out there. Combine that with a supurb rifle, the rest of the companys can just go out of business cause they cannot compete.
By the way
my 300 shoots one hole groups too, not a 30 caliber hole, but one hole.
all of mine are T-3 lites, the 243 is stainless.
my opinion, and experience.

Tikkas and Savages are both great shooters and awesome values. If you want a nicer rifle, go with a Sako. My new one shoots 3/8 groups at 200yds when I can hold still enough. The trigger is sweet, and adjusted with 1 external screw, no taking anything apart--2MG

if you want to spend around $1000 look at the cooper rifles. shot 4 of them and 2 shot under 1/2 inch and the other 2 where just under 3/4 at 100 with 5 shot groups. IMO they are the best you can get without going custom

My Rem 700 ADL 243 shoots less than 1/2" straight out of the box. All I have done to it is a little trigger work and filled the stock with that spray foam isulation stuff to quiet it down some. Here is a pick with one of the targets I shot with it.

That isnt the best group either. If I remember right my best group was .438 or round about for 4 shots @ 100yrds. This is measured from outside to outside so would be even less if measured center to center.

The gun was $380ish dollars at Walmart and about $175 for the scope from theopticzone.com

Well since no one else has chimed in I will put in a vote for the Remington 700VLS. A few weeks ago I bought one for $630.00 lightned the trigger to just a tad over 2lbs, and floated the barrel (did'nt know if that was needed just did it before I ever shot it). With 42gr. of Varget and 70 gr. Nosler Ballistic tips, CCI benchrest primers and Win. brass I can put 10 rounds in a dime at 100. She (the Critter Getter) is a tad on the heavy side, but that is how I like my women...I mean guns.

I'am probably way too late but I have a Sako finnlite in .243, it's stainless with a fluted barrel and synthetic stock. It weighs about 7.5 lbs with a scope (Leupold 2.5-8) and it shoots 3/4" groups with just about anything I try. Sako has a 1" out of the box guarantee, best in the industry.

It will eat a big chunk out of your $1200.00 and not realy do anything I haven't seen other makes do but it looks and feels better than a savage!

Tom speaks the truth! For this price it is the sweetest rifle out there. Mine was $1200 OTD with Sako bases/rings. It wears a Zeiss conquest 3-9x40. I can't see how anyone could not like this rifle. The trigger is awesome--2MG

Well I had a very accurate(1/2 inch groups @ 100) Remington Police Sniper that I used for coyotes but those heavy barreled rigs are just too much for a full day in the field. Ive owned 2 HB rifles and am glad I sold both, Im buying a T3 Lite in 22-250 for coyotes this fall.

Cheers!!

Another Savage vote!! and it's under 700.00 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
Use the rest of the money for ammo or scope.

I'm a remington guy as well, but to say what is the most accurate rifle under 1200.00 is like asking which came first the chicken or the egg? It all starts with the shooter, if you don't have good ranging ability, good shooting habits, then having a $10,000 rifle won't make a darn.
I know of 2 1000 yrd guys that are awsome, I know my range is best kept under 400 yrds if I want a resonable amount of dead coyotes, so I use what gun I feel the most comfortable shooting and one I shoot with all the time, I know I'll never be a 1000yrd sniper nor do I have the desire to be so, I call most coyotes into my range and the remington varmint 22-250 with 53gr Hornady V max's turns there world upside down. I would say the 2 best things a guy could get is a Harris swivel bipod and a rnage finder to improve accuracy alot with less money/time spent on a new gun. The guns made today and the ammo and powders we have, most name brands will shoot plenty good enough. I get 3/4" groups with my Rem and that is pleny good enough for killing coyotes.

I do not think you will regret getting a Savage rifle. I bought a model 10 FP in .223 in late January and it has turned out to be the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. I put a B&C stock on it and even made it better. I have my Accu-Trigger set at 1.5 lbs for the range and it loves 55gr Nosler BT bullets.

I shoot a lot and it took me a while to get used to the Accu-Trigger. I had read that in a forum before I bought mine and it was true for me. I have no problems now and really like it.
