Most accurate calls? Mini phantom, Mick Lacy, Primos, etc...

Hi everyone,

I am quite new to coyote calling. I need some input and tutoring. I purchased three calling devices:

1) The mini phantom digital call.
2) The Primos Ki-Yi #315 predator call.
3) The Mick Lacy ( buck expert ) adjustable predator call.

I noticed the Mick Lacy call has a much more raspy sound which I can use to closely match the jackrabbit distress call on the mini-phantom, whereas the Primos seems to have less rasp and sounds far more artificial. Does this matter?

Would the Mick Lacy be more effective than the Primos? Has anybody had considerable success with the Primos? I'd also like to know if the mini-phantom can be used successfully as a stand-alone? Does the advertised 100db get the job done and are the recorded calls effective?

thanks!

you don't have to sound like anything in particular to call coyotes. Put emotion in your calling and you'll have success.
Lots of sounds call coyotes, and often the sounds are something the coyotes have never heard before.
Worry more about your set-ups and and getting into the area undetected, and you'll do fine.

Songdogs got it. I took a youngster out with me and we called his first coyote in with a Foxpro.

He went out a second time by himself with a reed out of an elk call. Killed a nice black coyote. Not many elk in Indiana.

If it sounds like it's distressed a coyote will be interested.

Coyotes are the original opportunists.

I have to admit that this was not an answer I expected, but it makes sense. In other words, it's similar to the theory of attraction in flyfishing - sometimes triggering their curiosity beats exact imitation.

I highly recommend the FoxPro product if you are considering purchasing an e-caller. I've owned several e-callers over the years, and have some nice vintage ones in my collection. I've got a pretty nice collection of vintage hand calls also. But as far as e-callers go, I've owned the Phantome product, but not the mini phantom. When I switched to my first FoxPro I noticed an increase in responses from all types of critters, not just the predators. Deer, crows, hawks, owls, dogs, cats, cows, horses, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, hunters...I've called in just about everything that walks in the woods here with the FoxPro. They are extremely reliable, and the remotes are great to use and have good range. I'm currently using the little Scorpion and I love it. It's about 5" x 8" and less than 2" thick. Fits in a large pocket if needed, but I carry it in my backpack. Lightweight. Sound is impressive. FoxPro technology is the best. Try it. You'll like it. If not, they are easy to resell. I use em for couple of seasons and sell and get a new one. I usually get most of my original purchase price back, even made some $$ on a couple. They are the best IMO. Good luck in whatever you choose
