I have quite a few .22s and, over the years, have accumulated a wide variety of brands and types of ammunition from CBs, Shorts, Longs, and Long Rifles in Sub, Standard, High Velocity, and Hyper-Velocity loadings (approx 30-35) and have found that some barrels perform well with just one brand/type while some others chew through a fairly wide variety with equally good accuracy....
I wish I had a definite answer as to why the difference exists, other than an overall combination of barrel quality, chamber reamer dimensions, bolt lock up, and firing pin effectiveness, since it seems that each plays and important part, individually, in performance...
If you look at some of the tricks and machine applications that are applied by gun smiths and competition shooters that take the real time to study each factor and modify them to their preference, you will find a wide variety of opinions on that venerable little round....
You might want to spend a little time over on Rimfire Central, and maybe pose a question there, as I'm sure someone has run into a solution for getting improved performances out of almost every brand on the market...
