Most shots in one day at coyotes? Most shots on a single stand? Most shots on a single coyote?

I’m not proud of my shooting but set two new records yesterday. Most shots I’ve done on coyotes in a single day and most shots on a single stand.

I shot 16 times with my 223 and 2 times with my shotgun. I can’t think of many days I shot 10 shots at coyotes in a single day. 18 time for 4 coyotes is just embarrassing.

On the second stand I shot at one coyote 7 times and 8 minutes later another coyote showed up that didn’t mind all the shooting. I proceeded to shoot at it 4 times. 11 shots is the most I’ve ever done on a single stand.

The most shots I’ve done on a single coyote was 10 and I didn’t even hit it. The poor shooting was witnessed by a long time friend. An hour earlier I was bragging about how good of a shot I was with my AR10. Even 7 years later he would give me a hard time if I pulled that gun out to kill a coyote.

It was around 15 to 17 shots that it took me to kill 4 coyotes with my shotgun on one stand in thick fog. I actually had to go back to my truck to get more ammo to kill the 4th coyote. My main 2 excuses were it was foggy and I was shooting Remington HD T shot predator loads with only 50 pellets per shell with a tight choke. LOL

Shotgun loads with 70 to over 100 pellets per shell through a Mod choke kill and breakdown coyotes much more efficiently than loads with 50 pellets and less.

Some of the old timers on this board might remember this: Many, many years ago, we had a guy that was making hand calls here in Colorado.

One day, he posted about him and his buddy(s) taking 60+ shots at one coyote before they finally connected.

For me personally, it's probably 6-8 shots being the most I have fired at coyotes in one day.

3 shots at yote, sitting, then standing and finally hit when running - the yote, not me. The real bad one was 7 shots at 5 hogs 50 yds away - and NO hits.

Several years ago, I shot at a coyote from about 300 yards with an AR-223. He would stand up, spin, then lay down—only to get back up again—as I kept shooting. I probably fired 15 or 20 rounds before it was over.

Since I started night hunting, there are plenty of mornings when I empty my coat pockets and find them full of spent brass. I’ve never really thought to count it, though

Usually I take one shot to drop and possibly another to finish it off. Buddy hit one, burned its armpit, took me two shots to finish it as it was jumping up and down. Not sure why he didn’t shoot it himself. I never have hit a running coyote. Did harvest my elk on the run at 200 yards.

When I first started night hunting I was shooting a Stevens 22-250 with bullets that liked to splash. I emptied the gun on one and had him stopped, luckily I had one more round in my pocket. That was the night I decided to give an AR a try. I only use 10 round mags and won't talk about that.

I was tracking a wounded coyote for a friend, it tried to double back and slip by me in the snow. Sellier and Bellot 2 3/4 12 ga 4B in my 1100 full choke. First shot 19 yards(knocked it down) 2 shot hit knocked down slightly closer, 3 shot about 25 yards moving, 3rd knock down, 4th shot it is walking slowly, locked up stiff legged when hit. I pulled 22 pistol shot once in middle of body, it took 2 steps and I shot the last(5th) rd of the 4B. It went down, I walked up and put a 22 in the ear. The early wound(2 days) was a 22-250 round thru the body right in front of the hips. I dulled a knife hitting buck shot just under the skin, holes everywhere on one side. Never will buy that factory shotshell again. Sometimes shooting 100% still is a lot of shots.
