Moultrie Game Spy M60

Has anybody had any experience with the Moultrie Game Spy M60 Trail Camera? I am looking for one that I can have good night time pictures printed from the camera. I had a Game Spy 40 (that was stolen) but any pictures printed on paper were not good. Though the pictures looked fine on the computer. I think that I need more megapixels. I think that the Game Spy 60 has 6 megapixels and the other just 4. By the way, I send the pictures out and I don't print them myself.

Thanks,

Basil

I don't understand why the 4 megapixel shots were not good on paper. I get good ones with only one Megapixel. You should take the memory card to a drug store and use the kodak picture machine yourself. It is easy and you can adjust the pictures yurself.

I recommend checking the Cabelas web-site for the honest reviews written by individuals that actually purchased it.

I have found it to be invaluable in making a decision about a particular product. I also give Cabelas much credit due to the fact that they will post All reviews, both positive and negative, and leave them there.

I have found that LL Bean and Orvis will promptly remove any negative online reviews about their products. I called them on this once and they admitted that they often do this.

Here is a link to the camera on Cabelas.

Thanks for the responses you make some very good points. I might get better pictures if I took the card to the store myself & adjusted it there. What I did was upload them to a printing site from my computer. They came back very grainy. I also look at the reviews at Cabelas & I have found them to be very helpful. Cabelas does list the good as well as the bad reviews.

Thanks,

Basil

something must be wrong somewhere, I have a moultrie 4.0 meg game camera and it prints out near perfect pictures even at night if the object is close enough.

I have been looking at the Moultrie 4.0 ($99) for the simiple fact that I can afford to buy 2 of these cameras instead of just one of some other brand. Are they really that good for only $99 or is it too good to be true?

The Moultrie 4.0 is a fine camera. I found it user friendly with good battery life. I also found that when the pictures were shown on my computer they were great even the ones at night. However, when I uploaded them to an online service and had them printed into 4 x 6 inch pictures they were all grainy. I sent about 20 of them to be printed.

I ordered the Moultrie 4.0 today. If I like it enough I will order another in a month or so. Either way I will be glad to post a few pics and give a fair product report.

You can get a full review on the camera at www.chasingame.com. This is a good site and very helpful. They also have a forum like this one where you can get a lot of info on your question.

I have 2 of the I40's and love them. The color pics are fantastic. The infared take a little getting used to but thay are equally good. Your problem may have another source.

Thanks for the good information & links. What I want is a game camera that takes good pictures at night. I want to have them printed. It has to be a flash as the IR is black & white. Trigger speed is not that important as I use a bait pile.

Thanks again,

Basil

I have two Moultrie cameras, the 4.1 made for Cabela's and the M40. I have also read the reviews from Cabela's and feel that the Moultrie are good for their money, but unfortunately I had to send both back at the beginning because of some manufacturing flaw. The people at Moultrie have always treated me fair and were willing to work with me. I have never printed any pictures that I took but I had over 600 day and night pictures of bobcats and coyotes that showed good detail. Good luck with your game cameras.

Thanks, jbordy, I also had good day & night pictures and it was only when they were printed that they lost their quality. If you ever have any of your pictures printed I would be interested in how they came out.

Well Basilmarvin you grabbed my interest. I just printed a daytime bobcat picture and a night time coyote picture at home on my HP printer using Jet-PRINTPHOTO premium photo paper and the quality is really really good. I usually don't print pictures or even send them away to print. The day/date strip across the bottom has some identifable pixel shapes but the rest of the picture is great with no haze or grains. I printed the pictures 8x10 from a thumbnail on my adobe photo file. Both pictures were taken in the wild, the bobcat without flash and the coyote (believe it or not) with flash from my Moultrie made for Cabela's 4.1 that take the 6 volt lantern battery.

Thanks, jbordy, for the information on the pictures. Maybe my photo finishing company caused the problem. I wanted to get some good pictures and I was disappointed when I got these back. I always used a bait pile so that the animal was always in front of the camera when the picture was taken.

Thanks again,

Basil

I mentioned that I bought the M40 but had to send it back because of flash, or should I say "no flash" problems. The stats on M60 are not much different from the M40 except the pixel count is higher and it has a built in viewer. I found this site at Moultrie for comparison, maybe it will help.

By the way Bass Pro is selling the M40 for $179.00 which is their normal price. Also I did not find this model in Cabela's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

You have shed some light on this subject with the comment that Cabelas doesn't have this model. So I went and did some checking and it seems that I had an M40 but the $99.00 one from Cabelas. Cabelas doesn't have the $179 camera. Maybe this is why some are getting good pictures with the M40 & I don't. They have the deluxe version. Thanks for the link, jbordy.

Are you sure you have the M40 and not the D40. My nephew has the D40 purchased from Cabela's. I also know from experience and talking to other camera owners that if you keep the camera in "standard" picture quality that when printing the picture it is grainy. I have always had my in high resolution mode and the pixs were fine on the computer as well as printed. Call Moultrie and talk to their service techs, they are friendly and helpful. Brock, one of the techs, and I have talked at least a half dozen times- me calling him and him calling me. Good luck

That's a good question. I could have the D40 as I bought it from Cabela's for $99.99. It was stolen from the woods so I can't be sure. I always kept mine in high resolution but the pictures were grainy when printed. I probably should have called Moultrie when the pictures didn't come out and maybe they could have told me how to correct the problem. By the way, I didn't even know that there was a D40 & an M40. I just checked Cabela's and I am very sure that I had the Moultrie Game Spy 4.0 digital camera.

Thanks,

Basil
