Ok Guys, I am going on my first Real mountain hunt in about 2 weeks. I think I am sitting pretty good as far as gear goes, but I wanted your opinions. Is there anything that you found you really needed on your last hunt? Anything Really important that is a little out of the ordinary? Thanks Jeff

Oh yeah, this is an archery Mule deer hunt.

Extra release,
suntan lotion,
sun glasses,
hand full of large sip lock bags,

40' parachute cord,, stuff they make the lanyards with.
2 good knifes
good old fashion compass & a map of the area,, even if the guide has his

Something for blisters.

Have the right kind of boots for the weather. You won't want Gore-Tex if it is hot out.

The advice on socks is right on. Good socks that breath are necessary.

Camera.

If you don't have UnderArmor type clothing, get some (there are many brands that do the same these days). It is great for keeping you dry and warm.

Well you seemed to leave out important info like:

Are you backpacking, packing in on horses, driving to a base camp and day hunting or motoring in on ORV's to hunt?

Aveeno Diaper Rash Cream..... I need it after long hikes.

Rain Gear is always good. Also carry game bags for flies etc.

Your guide should have a list of everything needed.

elks, when you're out in the woods you don't need diapers, you can go wherever you want. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry man, I couldn't resist!

BTW, are you hitting Wyoming this year? I'm headed up with whole family on or about October 3 for deer and antelope.

A GPS with camp as a waypoint, extra batteries, a compass, 2 flashlights and toilet paper (in a zip-lock bag). I learned the importance of those things the hard way.

Enjoy the hunt and good luck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Cabela's Alaskan Outfitter Frame Pack. We use them when guiding sheep hunts and they are worth it. I will never go on a back country hunt without mine. I also use a rangefinder with angle compensator, duct tape works good to prevent blisters. It probably will be warm and if you kill a trophy way back and want to save the cape, I would salt the hide with regular table salt.

well i can't resist.
just drive north and when you see a hill that touches the sky that's a mountain, not hard to hunt they don't run away.
takes a mining company to gut them and pack it out
