There was one killed in Pulaski, VA 1989. On the mountain in front of my house. I was 7 years old at the time. The hunter claimed it was the smallest out of three He had seen during his two weeks deer hunting, weighing in around 150 lb. The Cougar was taken from the hunter by the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries, mounted, and now sits on display at Pulaski County High School. The property owner claims they are still there presently, and strictly forbids anyone who hunts his property from shooting them. He is also one not to lie. However if the hunter claimed the one he shot, which I saw, was the smaller of three he had seen. Depending on the life expectancy of a Cougar, they probably are still there. I don't have permission to hunt the property or else I would try to give further verification.
