Moving to Indiana

AZ PREDATOR

New member
Might be moving to Indiana and I am nervous about the amount of public land there is to hunt yotes. Can anyone give me some positive vibes about shacking up in the midwest? I rather hunt a predator then a deer all day long!

Indiana has lots and lots and lots of farms. Farms produce game, you will be doing A LOT of door knocking. On the plus side, as a former AZ boy myself, they have something we have never been allowed to have. FIREWORKS! and they are sold everywhere, year-round. Enjoy.

AZ Predator, Nothing to worry about if you move to Indiana, especially if you land in the southern half. Southern Indiana is heavily wooded and hilly. There are quit a few WMA's that allow coyote hunting. The Hoosier National Forest covers a large part of southern Indiana, and coyotes can be hunted throughout the forest. The only issue is that Indiana has a coyote season for public land. The season runs from October 15th to March 15th. The northern half of Indiana is primarily farm country made up of corn and soybean fields. It's flat and dotted with small woodlots and drainage ditches that hold coyotes. There is less public land in the north, but there are several WMA's where coyotes can be hunted. I live in central Indiana where there is very limited public land. I get all the calling I want, and manage to take 12 to 20 coyotes each season. Most farmers around here hate coyoes, and will readily give permission for coyote hunting if they know you're a responsible hunter.

Also from Indiana. I have about 100 and so acres to hunt coyotes on. In the winter about 200 more. Just have to talk to local farmers and ask for permission. Like posted above most farmers hate the coyotes and won't mind you hunting them.

you will get the deer bowhunting bug, and wont think about coyotes much till after january. I am from the south west and struggled with lack of the wide open public land to hunt, but get to know some folks, and you will find some land to call.

I'm moving to Indianapolis but plan on taking lots of long weekends to explore all of Indiana. Everyone has been saying I am going to become a bowhunting fanatic. Something about predators running at me though... So much fun!!!

AZ, when you move get a hold of me. I have family down in southern Indiana. I was just talking to my uncle the other day and he was talking about the 1000 acres he hunts every year for turkey and deer and said it was full of coyotes. He is going to start knocking them down and I am sure he could use the help.

He has about 500 to 600 acres close by that he hunts as well. He said the coyotes are talking a toll on the turkey down there and wants them gone. He said the coons are doing some damage to the turkey eggs as well, so I plan on hunting the terriers on them a lot this year.

Good luck and I hope the move goes smooth. I will only be living 50 south of you if you are coming to Indianapolis.

welcome to indiana if you made it. just do some country cruising and if you see some yotes just stop and ask the farmers to hunt there land. i have never found anyone yet that has refused me. im in southern indiana and just within a year have aquired about a thousand acres that i have permission to be on. just be considerate of deer season. be sure to tell them you will wait till they are done deer hunting and you will be more than welcome on their property.

[beeep] TO BAD MAN , BUT HAVE FUN BE SAFE AND COME BACK AND VISIT !!
NOW THAT U LEFT CAN U SHARE SOME "HONEY HOLES "LOLOLOL

AZ Welcome to Indiana You will find many place to hunt here
most farmers like to get rid of the coyotes.

Plenty of farms land once you get outside of Indy. Just get on 65N or 65S. Once you leave the city you will see flat, flat land all around. Buy a platt map and start knocking on some farmers doors. Coyote6974 is right, more times than not, the farmers will let you hunt yotes on their land. And most will let you night hunt.

Once you get your foot in the door hunting coyotes and build a reputation with the landowners, it has been my experience that they will open the door further to turkey, deer and so on...

BTW, I hate to say this, but every person I know up here that came from AZ, wishes they were back in AZ. I hope your experience is different though...

Thanx for the support. Just got settled in Indy. I think I have found a couple good hunting buds from this post. If anyone wants a partner to shoot at moving fury targets let me know. Going to start knocking on doors very soon!
