Muck Boots

I have some hunting friends who had these neat rubber boots that they could walk right through the mud and everything with. I'm not sure what brand they were. I started looking for a similar pair. I'm sure most of you already know about these type boots but I wanted to let you know about the ones I got. I went to the local Tractor Supply store and found these for $99.95:

They are called Muck Boots:

I had several concerns about them. Would they be comfortable? Would they keep my feet warm? Would they eat my socks? Would my feet sweat in them? Would they be too heavy to walk far in for a day of coyote hunting?

A friend from OH was planning on coming to WV to hunt bobcats for a few days so I knew I would have a good opportunity to try a pair out. The weather was predicted to be cold in the mornings and warmer in the afternoons with a wintery mix of snow and rain. SLUSH!!

I wore these boots bobcat hunting for 2 1/2 days in temperatures from 15 degrees to 41 degrees. I wore them in snow, slush and muddy haul roads. I even forded a stream about a foot deep with them four times.

They worked great. I still like my Rockys for dry weather, but these Muck boots are the cat's meow for wet, muddy, slushy walking.

They were very comfortable to walk in. I wore them for the full day on two days and we did several stands that were widely separated. Lots of walking. No problem! My Rocky's are a little more comfortable, but I had problems with mud sticking to the Rockys. Didn't happen with the Mucks.

My feet stayed warm even in 15 degree weather. I never even thought about my feet getting cold.

They did not eat my socks. I wore two pair of wool socks the first day and a half when it was coldest. I normally wear size 8 1/2 the Mucks are size 9 so I would have room for two pair of socks. On the last day it was warmer so I tried a pair of very thin polypro sweat wicker socks with a pair of wool socks over them. No problems with the boots eating my socks with either combination.

My feet did sweat in them. On the full days we were out my feet did sweat some, but they still did not get cold. On the box it says to turn the tops down so your feet can breath better:

I wore them for two full days of hunting and they were quite comfortable. Not too heavy. Probably not quite as comfortable as my Rockys. Muck boots are for those wet, muddy, slushy days.

I have heard that these type boots also cut down on the amount of scent you leave in your trail. Don't know about that??
They are fully insulated with rubber bottoms and neoprene uppers.

They did not leak at all when I forded a stream that was about a foot deep. My Rockys would have been too low for that. Mud seems to not stick to these boots as it does to my Rockys.

Muck boots are keepers. It is nice when you purchase something that works well for you. So far I am convinced that these boots will see lots of service. I am happy with them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Thanks for the review... They have to be better than my rubber mud boots...they get cold even when it's warm and you hit water... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have the same boots and I too would recommend them. I used mine in some snow and ice while predator hunting in Kansas this past season and they worked great.

I have a pair that I use to feed cows in the soupy corrals. They are the best pair of boots I have ever owned /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif. No leaks and are warm. I would recomend these boots to anyone.

I have the uninsulated version that I got from Cabelas. I love them. I switched from wearing LaCross for over 15 years.

muck boots are the best "mucky" boot out there. i were a pair everyday at work, and i wear them out hunting to. i gave one of my old pair to my hunting buddy cuz his feet were alway's cold and we cross alot of swamps that would go over his hiking style boots. they rubber on the bottom was all sliced up and the uppers weren't in to good of shape either. he was amazed when he wore them out that they still didn't leak and how warm they were. he went out and bought a new pair the next day.

I am on my second pair and the only thing happen to the first pair was the lining in the heel area wore off and they got to rubbing my heel.

That will be my next boot purchase too! I have the Muck garden shoes that I have worn for two years and I really do like them and don't have to worry about laces. They have never leaked are warm in cold weather and don't sweat in the summer, best of all I only gave $40 for them!

Frogman,
I picked up a pair right before last deer season on a whim. I am so glad that I did! I bought the camo'd version of them and they were very comfortable, good traction in the rain and snow. The first day out we climbed approx. 1000' vert feet and hunted all day approx 5 miles. No blisters or hot spots, which made for happy feet. I wore them most of the season and they performed great. I am sold on them! Thanks for your review!

I've had mine for about two years and highly recommend them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have Muck slip on shoe's, Muck Boots as above, & also a pair of Muck Boot Hip Waders. These are awesome foot ware. No Cold feet anymore. I would go barefoot before I would buy a pair of Rocky Boots. They will not stand behind there boot anymore. They also moved there manufacture plant from Nelsonville, Ohio to Mexico. Later J.J.

i just bought a pair of arctic shield muck boots on monday afternoon after two of my buddies kept harrassing me.. one of them sells muck boots so he brought me a pair to try out rabbit hunting that morning and i was sold from there.. plus he gave me a GREAT deal on them.. super comfortable and lightweight.. and the top of them will even fold down and wear like that.. super nice boot.. plus the warranty is great on them too, my buddy said if anything goes wrong with them in a year to bring them in and get a new pair no questions asked..

I wore these boots on a coyote hunt today 3/6/08. Temperature started out this morning in the low 30s then warmed up toa sunny 50. I'm convinced the insulated Muck Boots are not for warm weather hunting. I should have worn something lighter. These suckers keep your feet warm!! Too warm for today.
