muzzle breaks

I just talked to George Vais this morning. He absolutely still in the muzzle break business, and still taking new customers. But get this- he is now selling a silenced muzzle break. One for rimfires and one for centerfires. How cool is that? Recoil and sound reduction. Oh gosh. I'm in deep doo doo now. Now, my only question is going to be: what is the first gun I put one on? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Depending on the O.D of the break it can meld right in opr look clunky get the O>D> of the break and if you need to get the barrel recontured or get the breeak turned down to the Barrel Diameter. The end of the barrel has to be turned down ans threaded any how. So depending on the OD of the break and barrel it may screw right on or you may have to get other stuff done

Not only are you guys spelling the name wrong...

It's a muzzle BRAKE!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Vais Arms was purchased from George Vais by Ron Bartlett in 1999. At this time the company was incorporated under the same name because of the association of the Vais name with the muzzle brakes.

Ron Bartlett is the owner and operator of Vais Arms, Inc. Ron’s career in gunsmithing began when he graduated with an associate degree in gunsmithing from Trinidad State Jr. College in Trinidad, Colorado. After graduation he was employed by Dale Wise Custom Guns in San Antonio for four years where he learned some of the finer points of rifle barrel work .From ’71 to ’74 he worked for Robert Kleinguenther (now KDF) as gunsmith in charge of quality control. In 1976 Ron signed on with Nagel’s Gun Shop in San Antonio and remained employed there for 23 years. His duties there included most of the rebarreling and custom metal work, warranty repairs for Browning, Remington, Winchester, US Repeating Arms, Marlin and Savage as well as general repairs on most makes and models of rifles handguns and shotguns.

In ’97 Ron decided to try the Vais muzzle brake since brakes were getting more popular all the time, and the Vais brake was advertised as being quieter. After making initial contact with George Vais he was invited to order the brakes direct. The Vais brakes were soon so popular with customers that they insisted on no other brake but the Vais.

After a friendly two and a half year business relationship with George Vais, George informed Ron that he could no longer tolerate the pollution and food additives in our country and wanted to move back to his home country of Greece. The business in its entirety was offered to Ron. After Georges asking price was met and a non-compete agreement was signed the business was transferred to Ron.

A note from Ron Bartlett;

Customer service has always been a very important and interesting part of what I do. I have enjoyed working with shooters in the San Antonio and south Texas area for most of my career. Now that I have a business that allows me to offer service to shooters nationwide, my work is more rewarding and enjoyable than ever. Thank you and I look forward to helping you with your shooting needs to the best of my ability.

Does Mr Vais do other gunsmithing aside from brakes? In particular, does he do rebarreling?

Yes indeedy. He installed my Kreiger barrel on my Rem 700 after installing his brake (break? whatever!) He also squared my action, gave it fine trigger job and showed me a few little tricks with it that I did not know. Told me how to clean it, what to use. I mean to tell you, ol George is a bit of a crackpot but man! does he know how to build a gun! He does mainly 600 yard guns these days (I think) but he will build you the best varmint gun that you laid eyes on too. You name the caliber, you got a gun. Pretty much your choice of barrels, but he likes Krieger or Hart barrels more than others. My Krieger was a 3 month wait, but that OK. Ordered it in Jan and it was ready in March. He is a honest and very dilligent worker. When you say "old school", this guy really is Old School! Old world craftsmanship just ooze out this guy. Give him a call. Talk to him on the phone. 2083237674. Tell him Russ the guy you built the 28" muzzle braked Swift for. He will remember.
Any you better call soon if you can. If you want your gun ready by spring that is.

RustyDust,

I am still in Iraq, but I should be home next week (hopefully). I have a couple of guns that need brakes and at least one other gun that needs rebarreled.

Are you familiar with Blue Arms up in Horseshoe Bend??

LR

Hey LR

I know of it, but I have never taken anything over there. I heard that he was pretty good. I only live 25 miles or so from Horseshoe Bend. Are from that area?

I can certainly vouch for Mr Vais's work. He is sought after by precision shooters all over the U.S.

Send me a PM and I tell you how to get hold of me when you get home. I'll introduce you to the George. He can be a bit loony, but gifted people like him often are it seems.

And thank you for your service to our country.

I have had Ron Bartlett do 4 muzzle breaks for me, customer sevvice is as good as it could possibly get from Ron. So, the following statement is absolutely true:

"Customer service has always been a very important and interesting part of what I( Ron Bartlett at Vias Muzzle Breaks) do. I have enjoyed working with shooters in the San Antonio and south Texas area for most of my career. Now that I have a business that allows me to offer service to shooters nationwide, my work is more rewarding and enjoyable than ever. Thank you and I look forward to helping you with your shooting needs to the best of my ability."

When ever you hear of a Quiet Muzzle break, BEWARE!

I put a david Gentry Break on my 458 Socom when I had the barrel turned for it the od on this break is .835 I think it was threaded 5/8x 36TPI so when the barrel was turned I sent the break to them and it was threaded and the barrel turned to the OD of the break it is almost seamless the way it fits. Had the barrel and break parkerized togeather to they look like one piece unless you look real close.
I have shot it with and with out the break it does make a real differance in felt recoil
