I'm looking around for a good muzzle loader and thought I'd ask for some advice. I've been looking at the Knight rolling block and the TC Omega and Triumph. Anyone have any advice on these?

Thanks

Andy

Of the 3 choices you have listed I would choose the T/C Omega. I don't care for the Triumph and have not been pleased with the 2 I have shot. Nothing wrong with Knight's but I just don't care for how they fit and feel to me.

I have had the Encore, Omega and now the Triumph. The Encore is heavy and no more accurate than the others, the Omega is also heavy but the thumbhole stock models are real nice and shoot good. The Triumph is a handy weight/size, shoots good and easy to carry. Just picking up the Knight turned me off due to it's huge size and weight as well as the operating mechanism. I am not brand loyal to any muzzleloader (wont buy imported stuff) and I am sure they (domestic models) all work well, but I walk a lot and appreciate something that carries good. Same reason my centerfire preference is a Kimber Montana.

I have 3 Knights & an older sidelock import. I really like my Knight M-L & am used to the 'disc' system & it may not be for everybody. You can find a new or used Knight Disc or Disc 'extreme' for a reasonable price.

Three good choices, but just one more to put in the pile. I just bought a Traditions Pursuit II, nickle plated, full camo, speed breech, clean-up is a breeze, after zeroed, four shots in a nice tight small group. Ain't no one holer, but minute of Whitetail, NO PROBLEM. JMO

TC all the way. I have a TC Omega, both my brothers have them, and now my Dad has the Triumph. All of these will shoot 1.5-2" 3-shot groups with 100 gr of Pyrodex and Tc 240gr sabots. Also very easy to load. The triggers seem to be better than others also. Never had a Knight because TC just seem to work.

The only Muzzel loaders I have used in the last thirty years have been traditional I just cannot warm up the these newfangled abortions.

I like my muzzleloaders and any more deer hunting here in Ohio during our gun season I use a muzzleloader or a handgun. I know some guys don't like the Remington's but I have never had a problem with mine. My wife bought me the Encore when I told her how good that thumbhole stock came up and fit me. However deep down I do love them traditional muzzleloaders. I have a T/C Hawken and a T/C Renegade both in excellent condition and it took me awhile to find these. I prefer stainless for our deer hunting here in Ohio as you never know what the weather may bring and where I hunt I do have the option of some longer shots so the inlines are nice to have in my opinion. I look at it like this. Someday I will hang up my Matthews and I will get a recurve or a longbow and I will be just as happy as I was before. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

CVA Acura is about the best deal going right now. They have some interesting things to say about theirs vs. tc on their site. My dad has a triumph though, and I can't think of much I don't like about it. It doesn't feel front heavy like most muzzleloaders do to me.

You might have overlooked another great choice...the Savage ML also does smokeless powder but is still considered a muzzleloader and legal for use during the season(at least here it is). With the option to use smokeless you could forgo the 'normal' cleanup associated with FFg?

Just an option for you to think about.

I have an Omega and love it. It shoots just a hair over 1" 3-shot group at 100 yards. The trigger is light and crisp.

I also have a CVA Kodiak 45 that I haven't had any luck with. Just can't seem to get a group out of it.

My vote is for the Omega.
