My 1st semi-auto pistol

I have a SIG P-226 and a SIG P-229 in .357 SIG that I reload and have shot a number of hogs with these pistols, they are great.

My favorite is my Browning Hi-Powers though, have four of them and they are my Go To Guns.......

I had somewhere int he 2k range through this one, shot great much more accurate than the .40 and equal to my 9mm's accuracy. The design of the round makes it inherently more relaible than SD rounds. I really liked the versatitlity and carryability of the sub compact Glocks but ended up selling this one to fund a HK P2000SK in the same caliber, which will be replaced by the Sig P224 when it comes out. 357 Sig is by far my favorite self defense round.

I sleep with a Glock 20SF(16 rounds of 10mm Auto will light up
the night)...Until I can get to the tactical shotgun with
8 rounds of #0 buck.

I carry a Glock 27(40 S&W), and I compete with a Glock 30SF(45 Auto).
I am adding a Glock 17 for some matches where the
lighter round is an advantage. As for a 9mm for home defense,
or personal protection, it would not be my first choice, but
it is a good choice. It is cheap to feed, which means more
practice, which increases the odds that one will end up on
the better end of a gun fight.

If it were my first handgun, I would look hard at a Glock 17,
or if to be CC, then a Glock 19, or a S&W M&P 9c. My wife
has the M&P 9c, and she loves her pistol. When she let's
me shoot it, I am impressed.

I like XDs, too.

Thinking that since I'm familiar with shooting and reloading the 357mag, it might be something to consider. Thanks for all the good info.

Glock chambers the .357 Sig, a necked down .40 S&W.

And the ammo is VERY expensive. Nothing wrong with the caliber, but I would recommend getting one in 9mm for practice, and carry the higher end caliber.

I think I read somewhere that the .357 sig was a pain to load for due to the bottleneck shape.

The ballistics are impressive though.

If you go glock- you first have to see which models fit your hand decent. I really like my G19 but the hump and finger grooves just aren't quite right on it for me. The G17 fits me nearly perfect. I have all sizes- but had to modify a couple of them to get them to fit me decent. The sub-compacts are the best for conceal carry versatility. I carry the G26 9mm more than anything but may transfer to my G36 single-stack .45 at some point. Here is a pic of my Cold Bore Customs G21 .45

I wonder if the Teflon guy that posted that would be able to shake off - lets say 8 or 9 rounds - that hit him - fired from my Ruger Mark II 22 semi-auto pistol.

IMO - some folks need to put the brakes on their dillusional Hollywood movie/video gamer mentalities.

To the OP - handle a few at a gun shop and buy the one that feels fits YOUR HAND the best. Research ammo cost - it adds up quick if you plan alot of rangetime.

Go to a gunshop where you can lay hands on, or better yet, a range where you can rent and actually shoot various models and make your choice based on what fits your hands best and seems most natural to you. Handguns are much like shotguns in that “fit” is very important. There are a lot of great choices in today’s market. Guns from Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory, Glock, Sig, Kahr, Kimber, FN, Browning, Beretta, and on and on are well built and reliable choices. Handguns are poor stoppers overall and caliber choice isn’t critical; there is very little actual difference between the fight stopping ability of any of the common fighting handgun cartridges from 9mm/.38 Special and upward. Accurate shot placement combined with adequate penetration with a good modern well designed hollowpoint bullet gets the job done. Do the research yourself and learn to sift through the hyperbole and BS for the solid information.

“Always been a revolver guy up to this point. Help please.”

When, my local Police department went to Glocks four officers had accidental discharges. They had carried revolver before the change.

Glocks are great pistols but you need to learn to safely carry and fire one. I have carried 1911’s and J frames for over 40 years. I do like my H&K USP 45acp with a 5 in barrel.
Fine yourself a range that rents guns and fire a few. Buy what you like.

Have fun.

Get a glock 17/19 and be done with it

Put a round or 2 Hornady Critical Defense or Winchester Silver Tips in you and see how pissed offn you are.

I have had a few semi handguns. Colt Double Eagle 10mm, Sig P220 .45, Sig Mosquito .22, CZ-40 and a Ruger 9mm. They were all great handguns. I now only own two semi autos and they are both Sigs. My primary HDW is the Sig P220 loaded with Silver Tip Hollow Points. IMO, its hard to beat the "Flying Ashtray".

Go back and read. Tell it to kyotekllr

I own 3 XD's (9, 9SC, & M40) and one Glock 22. I was into the Springfields first. My favorite is the XD9. It's a personal preference. The one that fits your hand best and you shoot the best will be the correct choice for you.

I dont own a Glock but have heard lately from several XD AND Glock owners, they go XD.

Cant argue Glocks lineage, they started polymer frames.
