My 6x45 Photos / case separation

Sorry, the photos are just too fuzzy to be able to tell anything. The only thing it looks a little like from the photos is that the brass has a dent in it from getting smacked into the brass-deflector.

The comment that you made: " a scored / indented area" If the "scored area" goes into the case rather than sticking out of the case, then it could have come from a nicked reamer, not a scratch in the chamber. The good thing is that if it is a ridge left from a nicked reamer, it's much easier to fix. All that would have to be done would be to slide a good chamber-reamer into the chamber, the first thing that would be removed would be the area left by a nick in the original reamer. It could easily be done by hand.

This is all just speculation as it is impossible to see by looking at the photos you posted.

A small tip for keeping the little dings out of the brass is to take a strip of velcro (the soft side) and stick it on the brass deflector.

Carry on now!

That all looks like once fire brass from a Mini 14...
I have a bunch once fired brass that looks like that.

KAG,
Could you try the photos again? Move back just a bit further and try to fix the focus. Also could you place one of the seperated cases next to one of those that show the indented area.

These were the ones I had.
Note the two distinct different lengths at witch the cases were seperating. short and longer.
Also the cases with the shinny ring at the length were the others seperated.
Items # 6 & 7 were how they were extracted, and yes #6 is a live round.
I keep it on the shelve as a reminder, of what, I dont know, just watch carefully what I'm doing I guess.

Ok a couple of things, Black Hole offered to pay shipping both ways to check it out.....stand up guys. Nothing bad to say, I still luv my upper from Frontier.

If that is it, as it is indented inward I am glad it is a simple fix and I know someone local with a reamer. I still think my separations were from very warm loads on 6x fired brass. I really want to thank you for your insight on this and other things. I own one of your 243wssm rifles, probably one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned....if I can ever learn to reload for it properly, and its all me on that, I will grow to love it.

While smug....he may be right and I guess in the end that's all that matters, I can take it. I will test fire rounds with padding of some sort apply to the deflector to check it. Even though none of my other AR's / mini do this. I really think this is may be correct.

I know this weekend I plan to put 100+ rounds through it using other powder and 1X fired brass. I will see if the separations continue. If they do I will just ship it back to be looked at, just do not want to do it if I can keep from it.

The other guys case separations are impressive though.

I still think it is a headspace issue. With the bright rings showing up at several lengths especially. I would pay particular attention to how much you are bumping the shoulder back when re-sizing.

I know what case head separations are, and have experienced them in certain firearms and reloads.

The above looks like a different problem. It looks exactly like when one of my buddies rushed some reloads for his AR and didn't check the case length, and several were way too long. The cases came apart forward of the area where they usually do with a typical case head separation.

Can't be sure, but the necks even look as though they are longer than they should be.

Check your case length, if they are good, then thats not it.

So was anything decided here, for sure?

There are quite a few of us with these new 6x45 uppers. I have an 18" and have not had any problems with separations with mine. Thankfully.

I know some say that hot loads was not the cause....but after talking to several guys whom have had the issue with 6x45 it seems to have occurred with hotter loads. I backed off my charges and no issues since them. I have put about an additional 100rds down the tube since then.
