My coyote and pups...Pictures

Well I finally got these pics scanned into my computer. These are taken in 1985 I was 11 years old. My father dug up a din in the spring of 1984 and snagged to pups out. He always wanted to raise a coyote. 1 male 1 female. Dad gave the male away to a trapper about 8 months after we had them.
These pics were taken in the end of April of 1985. This is me and Kelli, she was kept on a chain most of the time...

Here is Chopper and Kelli, he was the father of the pups...

About a week before she had the pups she dug a den under her dog house. It took her 2 days to dig it, and Chopper helped her. The den was big enough for a person to crawl into. This was looking in...

I will post more in a minute....

That is cool Smith. I've raised litters of red fox before.
That's a perk to livin in the country.

The fox i raised, no matter how much time i spent with them they were still skittish. Your coyote seems pretty well tamed down, looks like any ol dog enjoyin attention! that's pretty cool!

I have a bunch more pics of the coyotes when they were pups. I will get them scanned as soon as I get back to my parents house.

There were 4 pups. The pups were all given away to close friends. All of them were put down they were to hard on cats, chickens and livestock. Dad and his friends that had the pups knew that they would be like this. Kelli died in 1993, had to put her down, she got real sick. She was bred only the 1 time.

Great picks Smith,a rancher near us had a coyote cross that he had to shoot as well,it started killin everything it could get ahold of.

She was just like any dog we had, she was a good pet. The male on the other hand was real tame but was real watchful, didn't much care for him when he got older. She never got real wild at all. She was born in April 84 and had her till 1993. She got real sick and had to be put down, I think she got some type of cancer.

Excellent pictures. I'm looking forward to the rest and for any stories you can relate about your coyote or the pups. Very, very cool.

Thanks for taking the time to share them.

My dad worked on a ranch near Grass Range when I was four. My folks have pics of me with a coyote pup my dad caught and a whitetail that got caught in the swather. Hunters ended up getting them both though.

Thats what happens when we acustome wild animals to humans and release them into the wild, thats why most of the bears they used to raise when the cubs were brought in as orphans ended up being killed due to the problems they caused, the F&G no longer takes baby animals and they prosecute people for picking them up.

I am gonna see if I can find some pics of the cross pups when they got older. I have to check with the people that took them, to see if they snapped any photos.

Once you acustome, or raise, a wild animal to humans and our surroundings they are doomed if you ever try to release them. I wouldn't recommend digging up a den and getting a coyote pup just to have one. It is alot of work and dedication and PATIENCE for the animals life.

Cool pics. That second one looks like chopper is getting a little henpecked. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Thanks for sharin'.

Great photos Smith. That is one huge den they dug...and only in 2 days? Busy work.

Love the puppy picture on the water tank. Very coyote puppy looking face.

Thanks for sharing....Tony

Cool! PICS, SMITH...enjoyed them, Thanks.

Seen a coyote, some yrs ago[Springtime]. Digging what looked like a den, on a grassy terrace. Out 3/8 mile or so. In a picked corn field. Coyote was really into it.

I'm always scanning, while driving /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Seen the [digger]. So I pulled over & watched awhile with my binoc's.

those pups are good looking dogs, i would love to see pictures of them when they got bigger. kind of crazy how the half breads where not as tame.
