My coyote and pups...Pictures

The cross breeds were really tame. Just liked to kill chickens, cats, a few pigs and chased livestock.

I talked to one of the people that had a pup he is gonna dig up some pics for me.

When Kelli dug her den it was none stop till it was done.
 
You have to be careful with Coyotes or crosses such as Wolf crosses, they are classified as a Rabies risk and must be destroyed by law if they bite someone. The head must be sent in for rabies testing even if they were vacinated prior to the bite or scratch for that matter.

Your story of your family dog & that female coyote. Working together as a pr. Just further, makes me think. That a feral dog & a coyote paired-up in the wild, would not do the same. I have read, otherwise. Very interesting.

She howled all the time. Chopper would howl with her all the time also. No other coyotes came around that I ever knew of. Chopper and her were mates as far as they were concerned. I had numerous people record her howls for calling and for haunted houses.
 
Interesting stuff Smith. I knew someone years ago that had a coyote as a pet. He was kinda stand offish and sneaky. I never trusted him much. Guess it's all in how much time you put into them.

I new a crane operator in calif. that had a coyote that went with him all day on the jobs sat in the truck acted like a dog but looked just like your kelli.Except he wore a red bandana for a collar.if i need to dig a hole I'll look for a pregnant coyote!That was quite a crater...
 
Right now as I type a neighbor down the road has a female "pet" coyote. I've heard the story behind it is that they had her since she was a pup and she is just like a dog. Most of the time when I ride past, theres a dog in the pen with her. I'll try to get a few pics of her and post them. Not sure if ill be able to though...those folks are kinda weird...lol

Although I don't approve of it, my daughter-in-law's mother has a 1/2 wolf-1/2 sheperd mix female. She also has a pup from this female. The pup's sire was also a sheperd.
Towards people, they seem to act like just a dog...but they fight any other dogs on sight.
 
I wish NASA would share some of his stories. He raised a litter of coyote pups and kept some around for a couple of years. Fascinating stories about their behavior.
 
I shot a female that had a den under an old house that was grown up with grape vine. When I went to pull her out from under the edge I saw she had 2 pups with their eyes still closed. I kept the male and bottle fed him. I kept him for about two years before he got sick and had to be put down. He would run loose and stay at my side if I were alone but if someone else was around he would scatter. He would eat beetles that fell from the security light outside the house and would "lip" off the Jap beetles from dad's grape vine without pulling off the leaf. I had even seen him digging up potatoes out of the garden and eating them. All of this while he was well fed with a full time feeder. He could sit on the porch with me and dive at a squirel in the yard and catch it before it could get 3 feet up the tree. One thing that I learned about Coyotes, Respect. They are survivors. Amazing beast. His nature?, Gentle as any dog I have ever had (as long as you weren't a cat, chicken or pretty much anything else small enough for him to overpower. Sad to say I have no pictures that I can locate seeing that it has been about 16 years ago.
 
He was Australian shepard and blue heeler and some collie in him too. The pups had alot of heeler look to them.

I am still working on getting some more pics located of the pups once they got bigger...
