My credit card company don't like guns

I got an email from my credit card company about customizing a card and putting a picture that I liked on the card. I set it up with a picture of me and a bull elk with my rifle laying across the elk. Here is what the sent me.

Dear custom card designer,

We’re sorry. Your proposed Advanta BusinessCard design did not meet our Image Guidelines, as noted below:

* Your card design included depictions of violence/hatred/cruelty, obscenities, criminal/illegal activities (including gambling), alcohol/tobacco/firearms, libel/defamation or other content or graphic design elements that might be deemed offensive or reflect poorly on or might engender hostility toward or derision of the MasterCard® and/or Advanta brands.

I don't guess Advanta Cards are too hunter friendly but maybe none of the card companies are today?

Cut it up! Send them a letter explaining why you will no longer do business with them

Even better advice...cut them ALL up. And don't replace them. ALL credit card companies are scoundrels. We don't have any credit cards anymore. We pay cash for everything, or we don't buy it.

As long as you pay it in full every month a credit card can be a good deal. You can get at least 1% cash back. That is like free money and since it is a rebate you don't even have to pay income tax on it.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gifDitto and Bravo!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Do it like Grandma did, CASH. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I think Jack has it right. Use their money , pay it off each month and only use the ones with no service charges.

How do you rent a car or buy airline online or make reservations without a credit card?

I haven't any trouble doing the without credit cards. I have received a few funny looks though when I tell folks I have never had one and never will. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I use a Debit card linked to a bank account. Since it is issued by Visa, I have the same fraud insurance that they issue with their credit cards. Just not the payments. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Guys, that "pay it off every month and use their money" concept is OK if you can hold to it. Most people will eventually cave in and roll it over.

MountainWorm, you drink Dave's Kool-Aid also, huh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I am going to change companies but the sad thing is, they are probably all that way. I never pay any interest on my cards though. I've been married 26 years and we have probably paid interest less than 5 times in that period. A cash check at the end of the year for the 1% makes a pretty good bonus since this is a business card and I charge several thousand a month on it.

I agree, but the store you made your purchase at is getting charged 3% because you used your credit card. Guess who pays that 3% in the end? So the 1 or 2% cash back they give as incentive is actually money you already paid becasue there are very few stores that give a cash discount these days. Come to think of it the only stores I know of that do are guns stores. So maybe you do make a little in the end. But it's still deceptive. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

That sure is a convenient thing for Visa and Mastercard, isn't it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

When you are in foreign countries a credit card is your best friend. You charge it and pay a tiny foreign money fee. Usually 1/100 of what you would pay to buy the currency.
Been there done that many times. No way to beat the credit card exchange rate.
A good credit card is almost as good as a passport.

I've got a Cabela's visa, had it for years.I put all my farm parts purchases on it and get enough rewards to go shopping without having to pay cash.Funner that way! It's only 1% but it counts up by the end of the year.I agree with everyone else, pay that sucker off every month and you won't get into trouble.Even if the big bank that services the Cabela's visa doesn't approve of firearms and such, they don't dare get on a soap box and tell us we're terrible people.

The only foreign country I go to is Washington /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif, I just take some cash, they take Montana dollars over there /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I only have one CC, its going to get paid off in the next couple months. The only reason it got run up is due to emergency dentist bills /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I thought about getting the Cabelas card and using it for my buisness, I could run about 100,000 dollars thru it in a year, materials, fuel, insurance, etc. I pay with my debt card now, just dont know if I want the hassle of another card.

Don't forget NRA's VISA cards!

Spend a lot, spend often...it's the American way and it helps the economy!
