My first go around with paracord

I got kind of bored over this long weekend and was stuck home with the wife. So i decided i'd dig out some paracord and attempt to make a lanyard. I got on youtube and learned how to tie a bunch of different knots but liked the cobra knot the best. I made the lanyard for my remote and then 2 hand calls/dog remote. I think it turned out pretty good

but i would like it if some of you guys that build lanyards to point out my mistakes. Thanks for looking.

I made one too. It's easy and looks great. This is my go to lanyard. I have another I'm working on with a snake stitch. Look that one up. It's cool.

I had a little bit of down time while I was out here in Afghanistan, and as the weather got cooler I started thinking alot about coyote hunting. I hate being gone during the fall and winter. Anyway, this was my first try at a lanyard as well. I like looking at the other patterns, knots, and materials. I used a couple of different colors for mine and can't wait to put some of my calls on it. Enjoy.

It was easier then i thought. Now I'm gonna go out and buy some different colors and make some fancy ones!! The wife want's a pink camo one. I do have a question for you fw, how to do make the junction prettier, most guys use a turned piece of wood while others use like a multi-wrap looking knot. I just tied the one end into the other using the knots.

AZ- that is a nice looking lanyard, i like the double wide knots, on my first one i just doubled it up around the neck.

Thats what I did. Just continue the stitch where they come together. Its firmer if you're doing KING cobra, which is cobra over another cobra. Its great. Could hoist a tank with it.

Hey, this was my first try on a lanyard too! Fun stuff!!

I used a cobra stitch for around the neck part, then a diamond stitch down to the hitch. I also wanted to be able to move the drops up or down so I used clips on the ends of the drops.

At the "Y", I used a simple braid using the 6 strands and then tied a "rod and crown" knot on the end with a "D ring". The remote is fastened with simple fishing snaps for easy removal.

Just search youtube for cobra stitch. Weed through some of it and you'll find some great tutorials. There's a guy that makes a whole series called "tying it all together" or something like that and you'll find all kinds of great sinnets. Go buy some chord at a military surplus shop and some plastic clips and knock yourself out.

The "tying it all together" is what i used mostly and then just searched for various knots. You'd be surprised what you can find on youtube.

I can barely tie my boot strings. If I tried making something like that with that much cord they would find me all wrapped up and strangled in a dark corner someplace. No doubt about that.

My hat is off to all you guys. Some fine looking stuff there fellas.

I use a knot to tie the ends up. If you've ever served a bowstring it's done the same way. Getting them TIGHT is the tough part.
I have no clue how to do the wood and antler keepers. I've never used one. I like the knot better. It's simple and looks nice if it's done right.

Lots of nice looking braids on here!!
Y'all are doing great.
