My New Ruger American predator 6.5CM

I have been trying to fill this last buck tag I have but season ends tomorrow.
So I will follow up with that accuracy test I promised.

I wouldn't do that. It would probably make it fit but i don't think you will like how it shoots with cut bullets.

I've bought a bunch of the 'Seconds' from the Sierra factory store that had either damaged or missing tips...I load and shoot them with no problem...Now, the effect on the target is probably different as to the terminal effect...

I was actually going to buy the one I saw but I found the 6.5 15min later at cabelas.


I have the standard version in 223, just a heads up the mag length won't allow for the 75 Amax, the American 223 mag doesn't allow much room for longer bullets.


There is a guy on the 24hourcampfire that makes a new piece for the rear of the mag on a .223 American so longer bullets may be used.
 
He is selling his setup to another guy and it may be a while before the parts are available again. Hopefully by the time I find a left hand American in .223 the parts will be up again.
 
I took my Predator 6.5CM out today for the first time. I was less than impressed. Did the whole ones shot, wipe, 5x, then 5 shots, wipe. About 2 minutes between shots for all 10. Shooting off a lead sled at a 100yds with Superformance 129grn or Custom 140grn A-max the best group I could get was 2". Scope was tight in the rings, rings were tight on the bases, bases were tight on the receiver, Nikon 3-9x40. I'll try to lighten the trigger but unless I can get the groups down to 1" with factory ammo I may sell it and cut my losses. Disappointed.
 
Hmmm... Well that doesn't give me a warm fuzzy. FWIW, I had heard from another shooter complaints on the accuracy of the Superformance 129's.

I got the trigger down to a reliable 3.5# and bought a bi pod today. I'll try again tomorrow with both the 140's and the 129's.
 
Heretic ; that's not normal RAP 6.5 Creedmoor performance. Interested to see if it improves. . I would be disappointed also. My Hawkeye shoots that load ( 129 Superformance) around 1/2 moa.
 
I hope this gets better, I have been thinking about trying one but I'm hessitant from some accuracy issues. I like my ventures but the twist rate is better in the river plus the threaded barrel.

I torqued everything down, bases, rings, stock. Scope is new, but a possible culprit.

I haven't had a chance to go out since adjusting the trigger. I hope it was just the trigger and the lead sled.

Try the 120gr Amax.
I shot 129 SSTs in my 260 and it didn't favor them.
But that was early stages of load development.
120,123,140 AMaxs & SSTs all shot great [beeep].
IMO the 123 SSTs & AMaxs are about perfect in the short action 6.5 cals.

I'll just be glad when it warms up so i can shoot my hawkeye. Kinda having withdrawls here. Little hard to shoot for accuracy when ya can't feel your fingers long enough.

It might be "match grade stuff" but that doesn't mean his Creedmoor will like it.

My Creedmoor hates the factory ammo. Most all of it is over MOA. I had to handload for it in order to get it anywhere near the accuracy standards that I expected. It shoots Nosler 130 Accubonds and Sierra 120 Game Kings under 1/2" inch.
