I have been going back and fourth on painting my AR. And while I think I am going to end up doing it... eventually, I decided I am not quite ready. So my loving wife, dug out the old sewing machine, and made my AR a Ghille suit. I am very happy with how it turned out and wanted to share. I will be taking it out to field and trying it out later this week!!

I have been thinking about doing the same thing as I am not inclined to paint a new AR.

Does she mind sharing some details of how she made it? Looks like a nice little cottage industry for you and I would buy one if for sale.

Nice job.

That looks cool!

Might trim those loose strings that are dropping over the bolt, as they will cause a jam if the wind blows them into the action while it's cycling.

What material did she use?

Just kidding.

She found some cammo material for the base, and some trim, that seemed to fit, both from a local craft store.

She used elastic to secure it. Some parts are a little loose, because they have to slide on, over other larger parts. It is still a work in progress, but I think it will hold up just fine.

Yes, will probably need some trimming around the bolt.

I asked her if she was interesting in making anymore, she said maybe, she is concerned, because it is loose in areas on how it will hold up stocking through the woods, or in my case through the cactus. PWSAMIAM PM me if you are really interested.

Yes I am a very blessed guy, God provided me with a great one. And Yes she does deserve a night out. I will have to work on that. She appreciates all the great comments, thanks guys.

IM4FLIGHT... I was wondering what your wife would charge me to make me one. i need one for 16 inch bushmaster with scope. PM me. thanks. marty

Now all she needs to do is make a ghillie suit for you so that you won't have to paint yourself (insert collective internet moan..)....lol lol

Seriously, tell her great job on the gun ghillie and for supporting your other passion.

Alright, I took it out this morning, and I think it worked well.

It did slide around on me a little bit because of the elastic, but just as I was walking with it. When I shot with it, it worked fine, it didn't get in my way, or mess with my grip. Mike2, she is going to make me one for my 30.06 as well and I think we will try Velcro, great idea thanks.

The threads did not bother the bolt/charging handle, will continue to keep an eye on it though.

I think it made a big difference, great coverage; it looks great, I am very happy with it, and will continue to use it.

The main downside I see right now is that is prohibits changing the parallax on the fly because the scope is covered up. Not a huge deal, you just have to calculate a little in your head.

Thanks for all the compliments, I have shared them with my wife, they will keep her motivated and I'll keep my little sweat shop going :0).
