Nady Problem! Please Help!! Fixed, Thanks LionHo

I have hooked up a Nady 351VR to my homemade caller. If I place it more than say ten feet from me it starts making all kinds of noise (Pops and feedback sounds). What am I doing wrong?

I have the reciever connected to the amp via a 1/8 x 1/8 stereo cable (6' coiled inside the housing) and the Transmitter connected to my Iriver MP3 player with a 6' stereo cable as well.

Is it the extra cable (Could not find shorter ones locally) or the fact that they are stereo and not mono?

Any help you guys can give me with this would be really helpfull. The unit works perfectly when connected hard but I would like to get it away from me!

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Hopefully one of the items in the following checklist helps:

1). Did you try fresh 9V batteries in both the transmitter and the receiver? Nady provides generic 9V batteries which sometimes last just long enough to confound the new Nady owner.
2). You used the line-out jack and not the headphone jack for the amp input, right?
3). What happens when you plug headphones into the Nady receiver headphone jack, and perform the same test?
4). Try the soft wire antenna on the receiver instead of the rubber ducky.
5). Are you certain you've got shielded cable between the receiver and the amp? If using the little Radio Shack amp, try using mono-to-mono patch cable from the receiver to the amp, shielded (the Nady should come with a mono patch cable new in the box, which will be shielded).
6). Are you sure that you don't have radio frequency interference, i.e. did you test for it by scanning the particular frequency, first? Similarly, is this just happening "on the bench" (perhaps next to a source of electrical noise like a computer monitor, or a bad ballast on a flourescent light) or out in the field, as well?
7.) Have you adjusted the 'Mute" pot on the receiver per the instructions in the manual? (this is for use in noisy RFI environs but will kill range when the gain on this is turned up. Much preferable to start with a clear frequency).
8.) Did you adjust the output pot on the receiver and the input pot on the transmitter, so that you're not clipping at high volumes?
9). Hopefully you bought this 351VR-LT new... if none of the above solve your problem, you probably need a refund or exchange. (If you sniped it used off eBay, "caveat emptor".)

LionHo,

Thanks a million!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

I swapped out the antenna and replaced the patch between the amp and reciever like you said. It seems to work perfectly now. I will bring it outside for a test in a while to double check. I can now walk downstairs with the transmitter and no noise. I think it was the cheepo stereo patch I had installed.

This happened in the field yesterday on a couple stands I did. It was extremly annoying and I just packed it in to try another day. Im going through a mountain of tax papers today so Ill have to wait untill next week for another shot at my first critter.

Feel'n Better, Dave
