I am thinking of taking a trip to Nebraska and was wondering how the coyote population is their and maybe what county may be the best. Basicaly would it be a waste of time, or a time i will never forget...

Draw a vertical line from South Dakota to Kansas borders which goes through North Platte, Neb. You'll find good coyote populations in about every county west of this line. Most ranchers/farmers will grant permission to hunt coyotes. Be courteous and ask each time.

Good Hunting!

You could actually draw that line a little farther east. I am from Spalding and the coyote club last year shot around 170 coyotes in that area. Mostly from Hiway 281 to 15miles east of there on 92. And up to 5 miles north and south of 92. And their are other hunting clubs from the surrounding towns that do just as good.

I am from around North Platte, NE and the coyote hunting has been slow the last week. We just got 4-6 inches of snow though, so maybe things will pick up. It has been way to nice here, but try to hunt as close to cattle as possible. Good Luck

Pete how close to North Platte are you I am just south? glad to know I am not the only that is finding it slow! I had to move snow so I have not made it out but I am going to get after it this weekend!
good luck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Vmax, when were you thinking about your trip? Shoot me a E-mail if you want. Maybe we can figure something out.
PistolPete,
Where about from NP are you? I grew up south of North Platte. I still make it there sometimes. I'm in Stapleton now.

Hey guys, I live in Silver Creek, Ne., but my inlaws live in Stapleton (north of North Platte). My father-in-law is the Superintendent at the school up there, and mother-in-law works nights at Walmart in N. Platte. I haven't had much luck calling, but the Hunting Club from Spalding has been and always has done real well. If you are interested in getting together sometime I think it would be awesome to start something like a Nebraska Calling Club where we hook up 2-3 times a year in different parts of Nebraska and call together. Just a thought. Anyhow good luck and this snow was well welcomed by myself even if I do work outside mostly.

Vmax,
This time of the year the 'yotes are getting pretty smart/call shy. I'm sure you can find areas to hunt but it might be worth the wait and go to Nebraska say the end of October first part of November. By then there will be a fresh batch of pups and hopefully some forgetful old dogs. You might even combo hunt for grouse, dove, pheasant or turkey if you hit the right dates! Regardless I'm sure you will enjoy your trip.

I teach and coach in Maywood. I hunt from here to North Platte and all around the area. Coyote calling contest is the 17th of Jan, so pressure is going to be heavy in a couple of weeks.

I don't know how far west you are willing to go, but I talked to my relatives that live 20 miles north of Sidney last week. One of my cousins said that they have to leave a radio playing in their machinery shed at night, or the coyotes will come in to get out of the cold. They have had more than one in there at a time.

I could put you in touch with them if you are interested.

I have cousins in Ogallala, in fact I found out one of them that lives in Oshkosh called in over a hundred last year. Guess I need to hook up with him since I haven't seen him for a few years.

Pistolpete I have two nephew that go to Maywood Josh did not go out for sports but Terry went out for football and basketball so that should let you know who I am. good luck on the contest and I will see you there

Elmer Fudd lives in Nebraska, now that explains why I can't find any coyotes..................even when I'm........wery, wery quiet.
