I will be investing in better stock ASAP. I would prefer a synthetic but I don't think Bell and Carlson makes one for this model. The Hogue is good but seems heavy. So, for my price range that leaves a Boyd laminate. The Redding dies that I want are currently on back order at Midway so that will have to wait a week or two.
I have one of those rifles in 223 and absolutely love it. Bell and Carlson does make a stock for it but you are going to have to buy a couple parts to make it work because I assume your bottom metal is part of the molded stock and can't be removed. A member here gave me all the synthetic bottom metal part numbers a while back so I will pass them along to you. I actually just called savage yesterday to check the prices to order a kit for my 223 and my uncles 6.5 CM.
Bell and Carlson M40 Tactical from Stockys (DBM 4.40" bottom bolt release): Part# 1012
This stock is cut for a varmint barrel channel so it will likely look a bit goofy. They make a medalist sporter for the 110-116 long action so it may be worth a call to see if they offer one for the short action. If this is out of you price range, Boyd's does make a few stocks for it like you were saying. I own a laminate thumbhole and I like it but it still needs to be bedded.

Your existing magazine will mate right up with this frame (assuming yours uses the axis style mags).
The guy that I spoke with at Savage said it would be $26 for the whole setup. Don't feel like you have to rush and get one because of limited supply either because he said they have over 1000 of each piece on hand and ready to ship at any time. You can buy the actual metal setup but I don't have part numbers for it. Last I read, the frame and hardware for the metal one was about $80 and I am not sure that includes the mag (don't quote me on any of that though).
Hope this helps you out a bit in the future. Good luck with the rifle!
