need an over/under scope

I have a .223/12 gauge. I need a scope to aim the rifle...not the shotgun. I have a rifle scope with lighted reticle, but it won't take the recoil from the shotgun. Although you can get shotgun scopes with crosshairs, lighted reticles seem to be few and far between. Red dots are plentiful, and I am okay with a red dot. It lights up and will work well for night time and day time hunting.
1. I need magnification. Max shot distance ~150-200 yrds.
2. In my search on riflescopes.com, the only one I pulled up was a BSA. Is this a good name?
3. can you offer thoughts or suggestions?

thanks

I have a rem. spartan 12 ga. /223. What I did was get millet scope rings that have open sights mounted on top of the rings. This way I can uses the scope for the rifle and open sights for the shotgun. I have a leupold scope on mine and it hasn't caused a problem.

Mueller makes a 2x7 shotgun scope with a lighted recticle and the price is very reasonable. It should work fine for the 223 and take the punishment of the shotgun, they have a great guarntee also. I have one Mueller scope and am quite pleased with it.

Got to the E. A. Brown(Mueller retailer) site or Mueller Optics

I have the same Spartan (Baikal) and mounted an UltraDot30 on mine. Only problem is that after sighting the .223 at 100 yards the red dot is a couple of inches high at 50 yards. Not really a big problem because I will be using the 12 ga at that distance and a couple of inches won't make a big difference in the shot pattern. The combo is basically a heavy brush gun and I don't expect to be taking too many shots beyond 100 yards.

Years ago when Savage was the only maker in the US of a rifle/shotgun combo they advised against useing the shot gun barrel with the scope mounted. 12Ga = about 26 pounds foot of recoil energy 9that figure changes from gun to gun but 26 is a good average) I would think one of the new shotgun scopes would be the best choice unless you want to mount and dismount the scope all the time. Shot gun scopes are very tough usually and will take a lot more recoil pulse than a conventional rifle scope but the down side is few if any have lighted reticles and they all seem to be pretty low power 7X is the best I could find doing a short search but I seem to recall seeing a 3X9 once but I do not remember the maker

In my short look around, I have found red dots, and unlit reticles. No lit reticles. Never hurts to ask, though. Unless something else presents itself soon, I am going to get a red dot with magnification.
