Need calling tips for wolves please...

Can anyone tell me mwhat kind of sounds I should uise for calling timber wolves. Besides the obvious of using wolf sounds, can you recommend anything in the way of combinations I can use. Season opened here in Canada on the 29th of August. Is it any different than coyotes other than using wolf sounds in place of the coyote sounds, along with a rabbit distress or fawn distress? I imagine a fawn distress would work better. I can't even trap the damn things so I doubt I will have any luck calling them but we'll find out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You will want to try a moose calf distress sound if you have one. I know they'll come in to this sound in a hurry if they're in the area.

I've had my best luck with the lone wolf sound. They will respond very easily if you use the group sound but I've never had them come in.
What part of Manitoba are you in? I used to hunt a lot around Aurborg and Riverton with a few trips to Churchill and York Factory.

I am a fellow Manitoban and would also like to learn how to call in wolves. Bob, my dad and I have a little bit of land
about 15 miles south of Arborg, for hunting whitetails. Problem is every time we put a gut pile on the ground the wild dogs come in so thick tracks everywhere and then deer seem to disapeer.This past weekend I was camping there with my family and just for the heck of made a mouth call howl from the camp fire and a whole bunch of wolves(I think), started howling back from what seemed a bit too close for my wife and 2 little ones(scared my wife). I have a JS convert a caller and an mp3 player I have plans of turning it wireless with a nady 351 but getting one of them in Canada is damn near impossible. Another question Bob I saw a picture you had trapping a wolf with a 330 conibear.Could you please post that picture again. thanks
