its been since last fall since i have used my scorpion, so i charged it up and last night i hooked up my usb cable and plugged it into my scorpion and the programming utility wouldnt open on its own like it normally did , so i opened it from the program files list but for some reason the computer wont recognize the scorpion, i have tried 3 differt cables thinking maybe my cable was bad and still nothing,, i even tried every usb port on the computer and again nothing... WHY WONT MY COMPUTER FIND MY SCORPION? I was thinking of reinstalling the programming utility but dont want to loose my 200 sounds in the process.. I had my scorpion programmed with turkey sounds only for last falls hunt and now cant get my coyote sounds on it...

anyone have any idea what to do?

If you plug another device into the USB cable, does it pick it up? If the computer isn't picking it up, the utility won't see it, so I wouldn't worry about reinstalling the utility just yet. When you open up MY COMPUTER, you should see a drive with the serial number of the scorpion X1AG... something like that show up. If you see that, just click on it and it should open up your Scorpion and show the files. Keep us posted.

when i click on format now it has many options and im not sure how they should be setup so i pressed cancel...

now what should i do? and thanks for the help

You don't want to format the disk, that could erase everything on your caller. When you double click on MY Computer, are there any other drives that show up? If there is another drive, double click on it and see if that's your Scorpion.

there are plenty of drives but none are my caller, i opend up my computer first, then plug in the caller and then and only then the J drive shows up but its insisting i need to format it, I can also use this drive for anything else such as my digital camera and have no problems at all...

if i did format it and lost the calls on my caller couldnt i then get them from the foxpro programming utility or would that no longer work?

I assume you are hooking the ecaller up to your computer without the ecaller being on. If that is correct, it should be recognizing like Snow described. If it does not, I would recommend you call Foxpro.

When you first run the Foxpro programming utility it prompts you to back up your sounds. Click My computer, Local disk (C), find the Foxpro folder. Open it and look for the backup folder and see if you have a backup of your sounds in that folder. If you do, copy the sounds to another folder on your hard drive or a removable storage device so that you don't loose them.

Will the caller play the sounds that are on it now? If so then you shouldn't need to format the drive. If all else fails, go to the Foxpro web site and download the instructions for the call.

the caller DOES PLAY the sounds that are on it now. I have my instruction manual that came with the caller, if I save all my sound files to a compressed zip file to my desktop and reinstall the programming utility would i loose my sounds? Also will I be able to retrieve my sounds from a zip file?

They don't have to go into a compressed zip file. Just put them in a folder called "Backup" or whatever you want and you'll be able to install them again either with the utility or directly out of the folder by copying everything in there back to the ecaller.

If you format the drive, you'll lose everything on the caller and won't be able to get them back. If your computer isn't recognizing the caller when it's plugged in, something isn't right. If you want, shoot me a PM and I can give you a call sometime tomorrow and go over it on the phone if you'd like. First, test another USB device if you have one, like a digital camera or something like that. If your computer is picking that up, it should pick up your caller unless the cable is bad, but you said you've tried several of them, so it's probably not the cables.

ok i give up, I moved all my sound files to another folder on my desktop, went back and completely removed everything that had to do with the foxpro programming utility....

then reinstalled the foxpro programming utility , moved the sounds files back to the programming utility and still NOTHING , looks like foxpro will get the caller sent back to them after my turkey hunt in may, i would send it back now but im afraid it wont be back in time for my hunt...

Can you get your computer to recognize other external drives when you plug them in, like a camera or an external hard drive? If not, your problem could be in your computer. My earlier comments about putting your sounds in a backup folder pertain to what you should do anytime you are changing sounds. I wasn't talking about other calling sounds you already have on your computer. It is getting your computer to recognize your ecaller that presents a problem.

When you plug in the usb cable, do you hear that sound when something gets plugged in? It would be the same sound you hear when you plug in your camera.

OK, it sounds like the computer is fine, now we've got it pinned down to the utility.

When you say that you "Moved the sound files back to the programming utility", what do you mean exactly? The utility is just a tool for getting files basically off your computer onto your caller in the order you want. I just keep my sound files on the C: drive under a folder for sounds. That's how you want to store your files on your computer.

Follow these steps and see what happens.
1. Plug in Scorpion
2. Go to MY COMPUTER and verify you can get into Scorpion. Note what the name of the drive is on MY COMPUTER.
3. Open Programming Utility
4. Use the pull-down arrow under Select Device on the right hand side to locate the Scorpion drive.
5. If the Scorpion is not showing up under that drive, something is not right. Make sure the left hand side "SOURCE" pull-down is going to the folder on your computer where you keep the sounds that you want to load onto the Scorpion.

If that isn't working, I'd give FoxPro a call Monday and chat with them.

yes i hear the sound but thats all it will do

You can remove the Micro SD card from the Scorpion and put it in an SD adapter. They usually come with the Micro SD. You can then put it in your computer and move sounds from there. That will allow you to save your sounds so you dont lose them. You can also reprogram it that way also.

That sounds like the computer is recognizing the ecaller. I believe that the programming utility will normally find anything that is Foxpro, and your search utility on your computer should find it. Just type in "Foxpro" in the search window and see if it will find it. What Snowcamoman told you ought to do the job too. If you have two users set up on your computer, you may need to be in the other user. Wish I could be more help, but I feel sure Foxpro can help you if you call them.
