Need help locating Greyhound, to be used on boar.

Mandi, I'll repeat something I've said many times,
"feed what ya like, and like what ya feed"
If you wanna try a cross,do your research, and do your best, you will end up with "barnburners","culls", or something inbetween. If your "okay" with that, thats all that matters.
Experience does show that you will save alot of time starting with proven parents. Let us know how it turns out.

Sean, I would love to see a whippet/patterdale. I think one of those would be enough to hunt anything from rabbits to rhinos!

Duane,

At this point, I enjoy my hotblood. This whole thing started last year when I wanted to get another just like her and realized that she is perhaps a rarity among race bred greyhounds. I guess the fact that she was raised as a "cur dog" with a litter of up and coming cur dogs helped to make her what she is. I would kill to have another foxy. Her being available as a pup was because she was runty, and the two greyhound farms I have access to only rarely have oops litters. On top of that, real greyhound pups off the farm bring about $3,000 each. Furthermore, finding a hunting greyhound handler in houston tx is almost impossible. We just don't have the big country like folks need for hunting yotes and such.

That is what got me looking over here and other places. I figured this is the source for what I would call game bred greyhounds. I aspire to have a coldblood, but once again I am regionally at a disadvantage to procure one. Sooooo, I figure I will do my research on breeds, pedigrees, and hunting styles here and see what pops up available that strikes my fancy. If nothing else, I think my husband mentioned going to the swap day in october in nebraska (?).

My biggest desire is for whatever I get to have some self preservation and not want to latch and hold on a big boy with the other dogs trying to catch up. I'm just fine with catching shoats and baying hogs. I believe most folks here would call that a cull, but that's what I want in a greyhound/sighthound. As long as the greyhound can get there and buy the cur dogs a little time to catch up and keep it there, I would be happy.

Cheers
M
