Need help on getting my first bow

So I'm going to get myself into bow hunting within the next season or so, but I'm really needing some help on finding a good affordable bow. I was looking at the PSE Brute, but when I saw a couple videos of it on youtube it seemed pretty noisy. What would you guys consider to be the best affordable all around bow for a beginner?

P.S. I'll be using the bow for mainly little southern california mulies, but also eventually taking it out of state for some bigger deer hunts. Also maybe practice on a few coyotes

Ok, this might help a little better. I'm deeply considering choosing between the Bowtech Captain and the Bowtech Admiral. Opinions on 3... 2... 1.. GO!

I think the new Reezen is the best bow on the market. I have a DXT and like it because its compact size. The Drenalin is a great bow as well. The best advice i can give you is go to a pro shop and shoot as many different bows as you can to find one that your comfortable with.

PrimosPartner,
Archery is full of personal choices and that's what attracts so many to it.

Having said that...go to an archery pro shop or shops and physically put your hands on (and shoot, if they'll let you) as many bows as you can. Doing this will allow YOU to get a feel for what YOU like. The "fit and feel" of a bow is important to how well you shoot it...and extremely important to traditional bow choices.

Good luck with your choices!
Good hunting, Bowhunter57

i go an older bow from my uncle, nd its a 70lb pullback or so, but if i can get it sighted in i think it will be a good bow. It is a jenning uniforce xlr.

If you don't mind getting a used one check out ebay and craigslist. I found a nice matthews on ebay for a good price and it's a great bow.

You need to get into an archery pro shop and try some bows out. I will not endorce one brand over the other, as beauty is in the hand of the bow holder. So you got to shoot a few, and get what feels right. Then you can add silencers. Don't let video make your decision where microphones are turned up to enhance sound for movie quality of the show.

Just remember something, yes you can find good used deals BUT remember that a used bow carries no warrenty of any kind. I know another bowhunter who bought a used bow, let his brother take it up a tree stand, and then his brother dropped the bow the full 15 ft. Lower limb broke and no warrenty to fix it from the bow maker.

Now he's out his bow for the entire hunting season.

I have a Mathews MQ1, smoothest bow Mathews has made. I'm looking into getting the DXT or Hyperlite for whenever I'm hunting in bow blinds and the MQ1 for treestands and tripods. My boss won a Bowtech at a raffle and doesn't like it at all, he said it isnt the same as a Mathews. Jus my 2 cents

I second the Elite's, they offer a lifetime warranty now and I hear they are the bees-knees.

Right now I shoot a FB 2007 Truth bow and love it. It's a very forgiving bow, and doesn't cost much either. But my next bow will probably be an Elite.

Depends on how much you want to spend. Bowshop for a newby would be a HUGE help, as for proper drawlength and set-up. For a used bow you cannot beat the classifieds section on archerytalk.com.

Just upgraded to a Mathews Reezen 6.5 this year and took a spike bull elk with it here in Montana this season, smoking fast and smooth. If possiable try to shoot a few different bows to see what feels best for you. Just a word of caution here as there was some referance to buying on Ebay, just remember that if you purchace a Mathews bow there you will NOT have a warrenty! Something to think about. You can only get a Mathews warrenty by purchasing threw a authorized dealer.

Welcome to the sport of Archery. Check out archerytalk.com. More info there then you can ever read. Just have to sort through the riffraff but it has good info.

Being new to archery I would recommend going to a couple different proshops and seeing what they say. Get measured up for your draw length and also start with lighter bow.....45-55 until you get the muscles developed. Even the best bow made will not feel right if the draw length is wrong or its to heavy.

If your not sure you want to get into archery all the way but want a great bow to start with look at a Bear truth 2. A new one can be had in the $350 range.

Also Elite does warranty a bow even if purchased used! They are the only bow maker to do so. It is what I shoot as they are very smooth and fast.

Without to much prior experience shooting bows you will probably not know what "feels good" or "feels right". Pretty much all bows today are fairly smooth and pretty fast. Don't get drawn into the whole speed craze thing. Other then that Good luck!!
