Need opinions: Savage vs. Remington Youth 243

I think I have narrowed my choices down to these two rifles in 243 for my daughter.
1. Remington Model 7 Youth 243 at around $440. I like the short action on this one.
2. Savage Model 11FY Youth 243 at around $420. This has the Accutrigger, but I am pretty sure it stays with a long action.
If any of you have an opinion on these 2 please speak up.

Savage Model 11FY is a short action. I've sold a couple Remington's and switched to Savages. I've had better experience's with the Savages. Some others might feel differently but that is my opinion. The Accu-trigger is a great asset. I think you will find the Savage to be more accurate than the Remington also. I still have some Remington's in my safe and they are great rifles, but they were made back in the 80's before Rem. started going down hill. Like I said that's just my opinion. I don't want to get a Ford vs Chevy thing going.

Try forum www.savageshooters.com I am not a Savage centerfire owner yet,but I will be. My son's first rifle (age 9)will be a Savage 16 in 223 and a 243. Savage owners must have a 98% satifaction rate. Savage is building the most accuate out of the box rifles in America today. I don't know how they are doing it but they are. Four years
ago I would not have given Savage a second thought..but in bolt guns they are my only thought. If the Remington was $440.00 and the Savage was $540.00...buy the Savage. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I have a 700 Rem ADL .243 that I bought as a full size rifle and then put a youth stock on it and I have a Savage 11FXY3 which is a youth package rifle in .223. It's a toss up the Rem. stock seams stiffer but they both shoot very well. I'm looking to pick up a deer rifle and am leaning heavy toward the Savage 11FXY in 7mm/08 then I can swap in a 308, 338 FED, or 358 Wim. at a later date.

That didn't help much.

Good Luck

If you like pretty guns that shoot pretty good get the Rem. If you like guns that shoot pretty, tiny little groups get the Savage. Two positives to the savage besides their exceptional accuracy is: 1) as mentioned before you can upgrade to a larger caliber barrel for the cost of the barrel ($50-100 on Ebay or sites like this + $25 wrench) and 2) the accutrigger is very safe. The accutrigger can be lightened to its minimum setting and if the gun is jarred hard enough for the sere to release it will still stop the gun from firing. That is one of the reasons I am building a .223 on an accutrigger action for my son. When he gets a little bigger we'll screw the 7mm barrel back on to go shoot things bigger than P. Dogs. I also think Remingtons quality has dropped considerably in the last few years and yes I one a few of them as well, but I shoot the savages!
